Got a MacPro 6,1 Late 2013 (the Trashcan) a couple of months ago.
Wanted to use it as server instead of PowerMac G5, too much heat in the room. Idea also to run several OS.
Completed now for #MARCHintosh.
Monterey as boot OS and running Mojave, Lubuntu under VirtualBox.
To be more int the #MARCHinstosh spirit, running also minivmac
Besides the fun to make everything working, here are the usage:
  • Mojave to run DiskTracker, used for decades to catalog CD, DVD and now HD, SSD and SD Cards
  • Lubuntu to be able to mount EXT formatted drives. Never succeed to install ex2tfuse by the way...
  • minivmac to optimize use of BlueSCSI and SCSI2SD.
I am amazed by the power of this 2013 MacPro, 64 GB and 2 TB SSD, never had a MAcPro before.
This is for me the best complement to the Macmini M1, 8 GB 256 GB that I am using for daily tasks with Windows 11 under Parallels Desktop.
Happy to help if anybody has difficulties configuring and using VirtualBox ;)
