Maelstrom 3.0.7-plus
for the Macintosh Plus, SE and Classic
======================================

Maelstrom, Andrew Welch's 1992 asteroid game, redrawn in black and white
for the 68000 Macs. The original needs a colour Mac II; this version runs
on a 512x342 one-bit screen.

REQUIREMENTS

  - Mac Plus, SE, Classic, or a 512Ke with 1 MB of memory or more
  - System 6 (tested with System 6.0.8)
  - An 800K floppy drive, or a hard disk

Copy "Maelstrom" to your hard disk, or start up from a System disk and run
it from this floppy. It loads its sounds into memory at startup, which
takes a few seconds behind the title screen. Under MultiFinder it asks for
720K and will run in as little as 400K, with sounds loaded from disk.

Changes made to the artwork and sounds: the colour sprites were dithered
to one bit and scaled from 32x32 to 24x24 pixels; the title screens were
dithered to one bit, and some were cropped or squeezed to fit 512x342;
the sounds were converted to signed 8-bit at half amplitude for the
Mac Plus sound hardware.
