Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Thank you for your feedback. I indeed need to check that. The initial fix was suggested by ChatGPT... (I don't always trust it but it can sometimes be relevant) - It considered that Pins 20 (WR) and 21 (RD) and read and write signals - It seuggested pulling D0-D7 data bus lines to +5 or GND - It...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Hi, I'm going to make an attempt to fix the board without floppy drive support. Attached is an updated view of UJ11 connector's pins positions based on your reply. I'm planning to connect pins 20, 21 and 38 to 5V, each via a 10K resistor. Does it make sense ? Where should I find a suitable 5V...

    SmartPortSD - lets build it!

I'd like to try the SmartPort SD to use as an, HD emulator for a 2GS since I have a floppy drive. What firmware do I need for the 2GS and is it now stable ? I looked at Github and I'm not sure which file(s) to send to a maker (e.g. PCBWay) from the Gerbers folder. Any help would be appreciated...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Thanks for your feedback. The suggestion I got won't work so I'll look for a SWIM replacement unless I figure out how to wire some UJ11 pins to remove the error (these schematics can be useful). Attached is my understanding of the SWIM pinout ; is it correct ?

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

My intent is to remove the error screen and not use the floppy drive on the Mac SE30. If I use the IWM, could it solve this issue i.e. will the Mac SE30 be ok ? I saw @Kay K.M.Mods project which is useful to identify the matching pins between both chips. Shouldn't it be feasible with a DIP28...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Someone suggested I could reuse the IWM chip from a Mac SE board (see photo) which I have. Could it work ? The corresponding pins could be determined from each board's schematics I guess.

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Thanks for your input. Attached is a photo of the UJ11 location where the blown chip has been removed. 3 of the connectors have been damaged (see photo) so I'm concerned I might not be able to solder a replacement chip should I find a dead Mac SE30 board ... Can it be fixed ? Whilst I found the...

Apple II GS PSU US to EU (110-220)

Update: I managed to test the 2 GS with a friend"s EU PSU, it worked well. The cheapest PSU option I found is from the PicoPSU adaptor from tindie. I also purchased the RAM2GS to have 8GB of RAM. Will post an update once the setup is complete.

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Here's an update: I managed to remove the UJ11 chip. The Mac SE30 now starts without any sound/bip and with horizontal lines as on the photo. I'm not sure if this related with a capacitor (replaced 2 years ago) or if another component got damaged. It looks like the Simasinac as on...

Apple II GS PSU US to EU (110-220)

Was is the same Astec model ? Is it the one here : https://www.apple2faq.com/apple2faq/convert-us-power-supply-220v/? I opened my Astec 699-0126 PSU and it's not the same model (see photos). I checked the fuse and it's still ok. I wonder what probably burnt having plugged the 110V PSU to 220V...

Apple II GS PSU US to EU (110-220)

Hi, I bought an apple ii gs from the US. My mistake when I received it is to forget looking at moving from 110 to 220V :( When I switched the 2GS, I heard a loud noise as I think I killed the PSU. It's the Astec model AAI3581, no 699-0126. On the label it says that the input is 115V so I guess...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Thank you for the information. I believe that the floppy drive killed the chip. I have a hot air station but it sounds like it's not an easy thing to replace, should I find a spare chip to use. I wonder if the motherboard could work without the UJ11 chip on the basis that I don't need a floppy...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Thanks for the link. About the faulty card, I'm indeed keeping as it's always useful to keep spare parts. The chip has a small crack or bubble i.e. it's not flux. Would you recommend to replace the chip ? Is it feasible to do with a common soldering iron ? The issue is that I have to look for a...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Latest update: I bought a spare analog card that came from a Mac SE (820-026-B) to replace the analog card in a Mac SE that I'm trying to fix. The Mac SE analog card was faulty since this one works , yet I found out that the Mac SE motherboard is faulty: when switching the Mac SE, I get a small...
