    PowerBook 500 series PPC upgrades

No because the 28 pin chips are 8bit wide so you need a set of four on a 32-bit bus. The 42 pin chips are 16 bit wide each, so you only need two of them. They *could* have used four 42 pin chips in the 8MB configuration, spread across two banks, but there wasn't enough space on the backside of...

    Powerbook 180 & Tunnel Vision

I successfully restored a PB180 LCD, which required two bakes, and it did not develop any dark spots.

Yes, if it’s still darkening then it needs more baking time. Hitting the right temps is critical here. How long was it in for and at what temp?

Reviving a sad looking Quadra 840av

The recap itself is easy, but the board repair if traces have been eaten away is often extremely challenging on these. You do not *need* to recap the PSU but it’s advisable.

Upgrading Powerbook 190 to 68040 with FPU?

Yes, those are the correct part numbers for the K63H and L88M masks. E42K is MC68040FExx (no suffix) E31F is XC68040FExxM Genuine chips also have their speed rating printed under the part number eg ‘66/33 MHz’. Here are some examples: Yes, this is correct - no FPU. A valiant effort OP -...

BlueSCSI V2 access LED affected by DaynaPort

No, it's not like that at all. Part I used is TDK PS1240P02BT. Here's a video I created of my ZuluSCSI, it sounds the same on my BlueSCSI V2 PowerBook editions:

BlueSCSI V2 access LED affected by DaynaPort

Hey, the piezo buzzer works fine. There's not much I can say about it – it's a cheap solution that does the job if you want audible feedback for disk access.

I’ve seen this on a 180 under System 7.1, when you disable sleep in the PowerBook control panel it shows a warning about image persistence.

    MFM Floppy Drives?

The schematics indicate the Beige’s MFM floppy footprint is connected directly to the Heathrow chip. There is no empty controller chip footprint like on the Tanzania board.

Apple Quicktake 100 and 150 Recapping and Servicing Guide

Here is a comprehensive PDF guide I put together that will be useful for anyone wishing to take apart their Quicktake 100 or 150 for recapping. I am maintaining a BOM on Mouser. I wasn't sure if this should be an Article or Document, hopefully I made the right choice.

    Flickering screen

Have you recapped the analog board yet? I’ve seen that when I had a poor flyback anode connection to the CRT.

powebook 1400c freezes when I have an HDI-30 cable plugged in

Please don’t hot plug SCSI devices - it’s not designed for that and you could do serious damage. BlueSCSI won’t run off the back of a PowerBook as it doesn’t provide the termination power needed. You might be able to plug in a USB cable to provide power that way?
