That you can directly FTP to your mac mini is a good sign. I could have my Mini running as the server, I just thought the NAS would be better since it is on all the time. And then it could feasible be accessible outside of the local network. I'll look into both!
I haven’t looked into it but even better would be to have it FTP to my Synology NAS, as unlike my laptop or Mac mini is running all the time. In a pinch I might be able to let the mini do this.
oh! Right. On the se board not the networking card. I got confused because I wasn’t certain if for some reason the card would have a FPU—it sounded improbable but I wasn’t sure.
I’ll check out the links!
@JDW no worries! It’s good to hear some actually use cases and what works and what doesn’t work so well before I throw more $$ at this.
I should back up and say more about my use case.
i plan on using the se/30 for writing. Having toyed with infinitemac and system 6, I was drawn to the...
I’m not sold on the external video just yet. It sounds amazing technically but really I am drawn to the small black and white screen.
But I would like to try and have a networked bridge to a modern Mac rather than SD card sneaker net.
you mentioned some links but I didn’t see any? Are the other...
Obviously the one thing that can’t be swapped is the logic board.
But I’m under the impression that I can pull an analog board and some other components from one the donor SEs I have.
What else can you salvage and pull from an SE into an SE/30? Any caveats about the idea?
About to get a se/30 that still boots. Crossing fingers it’s still not a hot mess inside. But I’m glad there’s a bunch of info about the recap process in these forums!
I've just acquired a SE/30 in decent condition… super excited!
Yes, I plan on pulling and recapping it asap! Any recommendations on that would be appreciated (though I am looking into doing it myself)
I was hoping to get it networked so it can at least FTP to a modern machine, but it's hard to...
Ah, ok! I wasn't sure if these were swappable between boards. I have two SWIM chips on 1988 SE boards and 800k WIM. I'm slightly worried I might brick a board but I'll make sure I get a proper IC puller.
Another small find:
I suppose there might be something wrong with my FDHD logic board… but there might be a way to force the Floppy EMU to stay in one emulation mode. It could be that the SWIM chip is responding to signals for all three types of disks (400k, 800k, 1.4MB) and somehow mounting...
Small update: a different FDHD board and an 800k board don’t exhibit this behavior. It’s something unique to the one logic board I have where it points multiple copies at once.
Also: mounting 800k disks, only single image appears. So it might be something up with the signals being sent to the...
I’m using a floppy EMU with my Mac SE. it has suddenly started mounting three copies to the desktop when you mount a virtual floppy.
It wasn’t doing this when I first got it. It started mounting two images at one point. Now it’s three.
I have a Maceffects performer installed so I’m going to...
