Power Mac G4 Quicksilver main case fan replacement

The new-original replacement fan arrived today and I got it installed. It is sooooo much quieter - much much better than the other random one, and blends in very well now with the PSU fan. So that was a few bucks well spent, thanks @greenmachine .

Power Mac G4 Quicksilver main case fan replacement

Thanks, I'd assumed NOS OEM parts wouldn't be available, but nope. I picked up one of these lots and will try that out instead.

Power Mac G4 Quicksilver main case fan replacement

Just documenting a quick little repair/maintenance item I took care of today. The main case fan in my Quicksilver was nice and quiet, but it had developed a really annoying rattle with age. I found a suitable replacement on Amazon that has the right dimensions (120mm x 120mm x 25mm). The...

Power Mac G4 Power Supply (the notoriously loud AcBel 400W "Windtunnel")

OK. That means it's a Quicksilver, so it doesn't have the notoriously loud AcBel 400W "Wind tunnel" PSU from the MDDs.

Power Mac G4 Power Supply (the notoriously loud AcBel 400W "Windtunnel")

I mean, the Quicksilver and MDD have very different case designs (particularly the front and rear), and the internals are completely different (including the PSU). So you shouldn't need any hard disk to determine which one you have. Negative. There were several MDD models with a single...

Power Mac G4 Power Supply (the notoriously loud AcBel 400W "Windtunnel")

The famous "wind tunnel" PSUs are in the MDD G4s, not the Quicksilver. Which do you have? If it's an MDD, then yes, the PSUs are basically all in need of a recap at this point. I recently had mine done through the repair service on eBay and had a good experience with that (it was working...

iBook G3 Clamshell display replacement failure, a cautionary tale

After spending nearly $200 on this repair and waiting nearly 2 months cumulatively for various parts, in addition to all the frustration and energy spent, I am not exactly in the mood for adventure at the moment. Lol. Maybe someday.

iBook G3 Clamshell display replacement failure, a cautionary tale

After a break from this project over the holidays I went ahead and snipped the (very tiny) plastic tabs/ridges off of the connector on the cable harness and got the new panel reinstalled back into the iBook once again. Ta-da ... Worked like a charm. No fried motherboard or lack of video...

iBook G3 Clamshell display replacement failure, a cautionary tale

Well, finally a step back in the right direction. Got the replacement motherboard installed and I have an iBook with operational display again (granted it is the original panel with the vinegar syndrome, but still a huge improvement). So I am now more or less back to where I started. It is...

iBook G3 Clamshell display replacement failure, a cautionary tale

No worries. One popped up on the 'bay for like 30 bucks yesterday so I nabbed it ... should be here next week.

CompleteSet - a resource for vintage Mac collectors and enthusiasts

This is excellent, many thanks @François ! While these are the French versions, the part numbers (apart from the F prefixes) all matched up with what I have in CompleteSet, and your later G4 Cube disc packet helped fill in a remaining hole. I will also add the Lockable Cable Fastener to the G4...

iBook G3 Clamshell display replacement failure, a cautionary tale

I see. I'm in a similar group with the same name but with "... or Buy" on the end. I can't even find this one by search so that's a bummer.

iBook G3 Clamshell display replacement failure, a cautionary tale

Unfortunately I am just getting an error when I try to visit this link - possible to share a different way?

iBook G3 Clamshell display replacement failure, a cautionary tale

Well unfortunately I've had no luck sourcing a replacement motherboard, so this machine and project are dead in the water until that happens. If anybody has a spare 366 MHz (or 466 MHz) FireWire iBook clamshell mobo they'd be willing to sell, or even a parts machine with one installed, let me know.

CompleteSet - a resource for vintage Mac collectors and enthusiasts

I see, that is good info. Presumably it had a SuperDrive? I was aware Apple was packing-in blank DVD-R discs with the towers equipped with them, but that's the first I've heard of it for a notebook. If you can provide the part number that'd be much appreciated.
