NHK Video: Steve Jobs love of Japanese Art

Hi All, Thought it would be nice for a once to post something beyond the usual Maxell mayhem or corroded traces due to leaking caps. The pictures in this post are showing some renditions of “Mr Macintosh”, by the Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon (1934 - 2005). Mr Macintosh even made it into the...

Macintosh Portable non-backlight replace display options

Unfortunately there’s none. At least not that I know. The Portable display has a high failure rate, apparently due to some “poor“ materials (lamination glue) that did not age gracefully. Out of the 4 units I had, 3 developed dead lines over the years, only one (touching wood) is still in mint...

BlueSCSI and System Switcher basic question

Discharging the CRT is always the way to go. It’s indeed not that complicated, there are plenty of tutorials on how to make it in the safest way. For example, download the Larry Pina book and you will find good guidance there. However, it’s also good to know that almost all the compact Macs use...

Apple 23" ADC Cinema Display Hinge and Kickstand Replacement

I must admit that sometimes it’s really baffling to see how premium and expensive products are in fact poorly designed and engineered. That hinge is a compendium of how not to design a mechanically stressed component, mixing fragile metal cast, concentrated loads and sharp corners. Good that...

unknown part on 128k analog board?

The plastic tube is threaded, for allowing the fine positioning of the ferrite core wrt to the coils.

unknown part on 128k analog board?

My two cents… the plastic part fulfills the function of allowing the ferrite core to be precisely aligned with the coils, allowing the fine tuning. If the sheath of the coils is not damaged, and the ferrite core can still be adjusted, the component should still be fully functional. I had an...

    Rubber pads without 3D printing

Oh, yesss! I am so glad you appreciate them! I literally made them one by one with my hands. It’s been a nice project, I hope your N4000 display is in a good shape, too!

    Rubber pads without 3D printing

I did some complex shape PU casting some years ago (replacement for NeXT display rollers). There are some pics on this forum, too. It’s been fun, but expensive and utterly time consuming. Degassing the PU before casting is key, but small vacuum chambers are cheap on Amazon.

I Got An M3 MacBook Pro; Obsolescence Forced My Hand

Why not Pages? Numbers is a bad joke, but Pages and Keynote are solid propositions. As a writer, though, I’d consider more specific applicatios, such as iA Writer (https://ia.net/writer).

    Color Classic input voltage question

In sheer honesty, I have no clue, but I would be very surprised if the board had been tweaked for working at 110 V only. The official specs are reading variable voltage input. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/112200 Could be that on some markets the regulatory labeling mandates to conform only...

    Color Classic input voltage question

The only fixed voltage analog board that I have ever encountered is the one of the original 128k. Anyhow, I have a Performa 275 (a CCII sold only in Asia), and that one is rated 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz, 2A.

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I measured on the second line of pins starting from the rear of the machine. The rows are marked on the board, from 1 to 32, so I should have picked the right one. I was very surprised to see such a messy situation triggered by a simple voltage measurement, and I got very scared as at first the...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I wish you a smooth relocation, all the rest is now unimportant.
