Macintosh SE or SE/30 Fan Bracket

If you look at the top and bottom edges you'll see they're kind of stepped, with a cutout to improve that clearance. Once the case is on, I don't think there would be any sufficient frame/analog board flex that would disturb the CRT neck board, especially since the back edge of the analog board...

Macintosh SE or SE/30 Fan Bracket

I just want to thank @alxlab for the design and @Trash80toG4 for the suggested improvements. I got one printed by JLCPCB via FDM (PLA) for only £6 delivered - to replace a very loud grinding "squirrel cage" fan in an original two floppy drive SE - and it's perfect! I couldn't get the nut into...

Getting an Amiga online in 2025

Part Two - Selecting and Configuring a TCP/IP Stack Let's set some expectations: an Amiga browsing the modern Web is going to be pretty horrendous. If, like me, you have an unaccelerated A600 the only real purpose of getting online is just out of curiosity, but it's also nice to be able to...

Getting an Amiga online in 2025

Part One - Obtaining a Network Card The first challenge is finding a NIC without paying way over the odds. Most sellers have discovered they can scalp Amiga owners for £50 for a compatible PCMCIA NIC. I ruled out wireless network cards on the basis that none of the Amiga compatible ones will...

AmigaOS 3.2.3 clean install from SD/CF card

I restored an Amiga 600 recently and it was quite difficult to install the OS, since it seemed to pretty much assume a CD-ROM drive. I documented the steps to install from SD/CF card here: https://github.com/patters-match/AmigaSetup

IP printing from vintage Macs - a guide

Bonus content - if you're like me and hanging onto a perfectly good 28 year old PostScript HP laser printer and still want to use it with the latest macOS (in my case 15.5 Sequoia), then you'll be disappointed that Apple seems to have prevented use of the old monolithic HP Printers installation...

Apple Extended Keyboard II (AEK II) restoration

A great result :) I've been using it for work for about a week and I really like it. There is one pain though - the QMK firmware is pretty poor at resuming from sleep. It often has to be replugged.

Apple Extended Keyboard II (AEK II) restoration

A small update. I was able to source 5 Alps White SKCM switches, pulled from a donor keyboard, on eBay for just under £10 shipped. Tonight I desoldered the problem switch and swapped in a replacement. The chatter is gone, and I sealed up the board, happy with the result. After some more firm...

    Falcon F-16 v2.0 in multiplayer....Mac Plus <-> 486 PC!

This will be interesting to see. It's curious that these inter system link-up modes were developed, especially given the additional testing costs. Coincidentally, I saw it mentioned recently (in a YouTube video I think) that Stunt Car Racer was able to link between Amiga and Atari ST, something...

Apple Extended Keyboard II (AEK II) restoration

I like the typing feel of my M0116 keyboard that I acquired with my SE/30. My own Mac back in the day was a Classic with the far cheaper feeling Apple Keyboard II (M0487). I remember that my dad's office Macs and a friend's Mac IIfx had the nicer mechanical keyboards, so I was aware of the...

    Compact Mac carry bag restoration

Some detailed pics, showing the disintegrated material (the light grey bloom on everything), particularly evident in the pouch in the top lid. I think this will have to be entirely remade with a new liner. And I guess I will be sticking with cotton :)

How to mount DSK images on real hardware? System 7.0.1

Only one of the Disk Copy versions has a Mount Image option. I think it's 6.3.3, not the 8 one. You load it then in its menu there is a Mount Image command. AFAIK, MountImage is for System 6.

SCSI cable folds - to cut or not to cut

Much neater, and working fine. BlueSCSI v2's Raspberry Pi Pico W WiFi antenna is oriented upwards which seems to work fine for me. I suspect that the other way up would be too close to the drive cage and floppy drive metal.

SCSI cable folds - to cut or not to cut

This is the new 20cm cable I ordered, for £3.84: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394893125750 As long as the blade is kept in line and lower than 45 degrees, it follows the depression line in the cable while cutting. As you can see here, a full twist can be achieved much more easily with this sliced...
