What did you do to you computer today?

Haven't done a thing the last few days as I've been focused on hopefully getting through the hiring process and getting back to work. Storm rolling in, so I'm going to dim the lights and play more Diablo II on the iMac; ThinkPad 770 has been put away again for now as I'm too heartbroken to mess...

What did you do to you computer today?

After discovering yesterday that the 770s hard drive appears to be dead as well, I've given up on doing anything with it for the time being. Makes me a little sad that things have given up the ghost, but it's a 28 year old machine with all original bits, so I guess it's to be expected. Beyond...

Getting An Old MacBook Air & Installing Linux (Ubuntu? Mint?). Any Advice?

I actually came across an install disc I made for Ubuntu 8.10 back in 2009... need to find something I can toss it on for grins.

What did you do to you computer today?

I've been fighting in vain to reinstall either XP or 98SE on my ThinkPad 770. The optical drive is fighting me every step of the way after working perfectly a few months back. Not sure what's changed. The drive itself is a Toshiba SD-C2002, which was used in a broad range of laptops back in the...

Getting An Old MacBook Air & Installing Linux (Ubuntu? Mint?). Any Advice?

I love Cinnamon, but Xfce is just as awesome; super lightweight. If graphical horsepower isn't an issue, I will go KDE Plasma every time. I just love it! I did originally have Arch with KDE on this MacBook Pro and it ran it just fine, but when I moved from Mint to EndeavourOS I opted for Xfce...

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

That’s still an awesome way to conclude!

Getting An Old MacBook Air & Installing Linux (Ubuntu? Mint?). Any Advice?

I love Mint! I think it's a great beginner distro, as well, for people who want to make a switch from Windows.

PowerFox - new web browser for Leopard on PowerPC!

I don't have anything that can run this (yet!) but this is awesome to see!

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

Well, I did not get around to doing the thermal compound replacement yet, but I've been playing more games on it!

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

I actually just used up the last of the tiny tube of AS on redoing the compound in my IBM ThinkPad 770! At my old job, I built several conference room systems for a price that beat the Dell alternative, and *warranty* wasn't really an issue as I *was* the warranty. So I ordered up a bunch of...

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

Sweet! And yes, I know everyone has their own technique of applying compound and they're all wrong and all right :ROFLMAO: I've switched to using Noctua's NT-H1 paste for everything a few years back and it's been a solid performer.

Man, this hits hard, and I can't believe I was too busy working to even hear about this happening. I grew up watching Computer Chronicles and Net Cafe. I always watch LGR's year-end CC recap when he does them.

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

I'm thinking of redoing the thermal paste in the G3, but I don't have any fresh thermal pads on-hand. Would a quality thermal compound be sufficient?

    DOS on Mac

I have a few Pentium MMX chips kicking around, if I ever get my hands on a Quadra 950, I'd like to try this as well! Honestly not sure what I'd even use it for, but it would be a cool thing to have.
