Rust inhibitor for Mac SE shield?

Corrosion-X is a great coating to exclude water and prevent rust. If there is any residual rust, it prevents it from spreading. I’ve used it on floppy drive mechanisms that were crusted and immobile with rust, immediately after rinsing them off after an overnight soak in Evaporust. They’ve...

Help troubleshooting a Mac SE Astec power supply

Perhaps something got damaged during the process of putting the pcb back into the enclosure. I’d check the underside of the printed circuit board for scratches across the traces. As mentioned by Nixonthenight, I’d also check the transformers. If one of the transformers is shot, I’m sure there...

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

Keep in mind that, without a working main battery, there's no point to a PRAM battery in a Lombard. It is meant to tide you over a few minutes while changing main batteries or plugging the Mac in after its main battery's charge is exhausted.

Comparing stock fan vs. Noctua in an SE/30 with temperature data

I don’t believe the Redux line includes a 60mm fan.

Comparing stock fan vs. Noctua in an SE/30 with temperature data

I bought these from OWC a few years ago, but cannot find a current seller. It seems I was lucky.

Lombard / Pismo CD & DVD module drive replacement and 'Master' IDE Hack

It seems that the UJ830B works differently in the Lombard than the Pismo; it is not recognized by my Lombard without the master modification. Additionally, although it reads/write with the modification, it won’t boot my Lombard. I’ suppose I’ll have to keep the UJ850 with its generic flat...

Lombard / Pismo CD & DVD module drive replacement and 'Master' IDE Hack

The source of the information of drives compatible with Lombard/Pismo faceplates was jax184.com. This appears to have vanished from the internet, and the Wayback Machine's archive of this site is incomplete, so I'll post a link to a pdf of the webpages I saved in 2023. pdf of...

Lombard / Pismo CD & DVD module drive replacement and 'Master' IDE Hack

The Panasonic UJ-830B is compatible with the stock bezel specifically of the PowerBook DVD-ROM Module M7931. It is not compatible with the bezel of any other Lombard DVD-ROM or CD-ROM module. There needs to be some light sanding and some adhesive on one of the tabs, but the result is a...

    68k Mac Prices from Yesteryear

Around 2005, I bought a IIfx in perfect condition for $5. A few years earlier, I’d bought an SE/30 with Xceed video card from Computer Renaissance for $10, and a Quadra 840AV for $20. I still have the first two. Those were the Golden Days.

I Got An M3 MacBook Pro; Obsolescence Forced My Hand

These locally installed, non-subscription, non-cloud based versions of MS Office can sometimes be found for $50 or so through Cult of Mac, Stacksocial, and other sources.

TiBook Screen Assembly - the forbidden split?

After multiple failed attempts, I gave up on trying to rescue the shells and instead bought NOS shells (and, in some cases, bezels) from Sunshine Express Inc (sunshineex) on eBay. Not cheap, but the end result was pretty good. Right now, I see only the bezels in their eBay store.

    MDD Power Supply Recap Success

Well done! I looked at the insides of my MDD PSU, said “no way,” and backed away slowly and quietly. I got it fixed professionally, and have obtained a couple more PSU’s in case I get up the nerve to tackle them. As far as what to do with it? This is partial list of what I’ve done with mine...

Yet another BlueSCSI SE/30 bracket post…

I searched stlfinder and found this listed as being on Thingiverse. I could have saved myself some time - it turns out I had it in my thingiverse collection already.

Installing a fan into a Mac Plus

This model of Mac tends to be reliable, suggesting that it was designed to tolerate the heat. Just don’t put anything (like books) over the vents.
