Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

I did it about a month or so ago to a wolverine pro and the kodak C unit. I found that the CH341a reader I got I had to have the wires backwards. i had the same issue, flipped things around a few times until it was detected in the software. IIRC the red strip didn't align w/the dot on the chip

Correct, however the designer of this made his own PCB that the camera sits on, includes an HDR chip as well (haven't tried that feature yet). But yes the wolverine is just the transport mechanism, as well as the light below. Agreed this is not a cheap solution, but it has all the control we...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Also here is the end result of the Wolverine Hawkeye after my workflow: If you have source files you'd like me to run my workflow on let me know, while I don't have a kodak machine anymore, I'm happy to help perfect the workflow. It's mainly running through a slimmed down version of VideoFreds...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Hi guys, wow I go away for a few days and look at you guys hacking this thing to pieces... So you guys are on the right track w/the sensor not fulling being used. I now have a frankenstein Wolverine with the Hawkeye modifications (I use the Eumig for fast rewind and for applying FilmGuard, it is...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Hey all an update here from my side. I've sent back both the wolverine pro and the kodak unit, rest assured I captured the ROM from both. That said, I have a heavily modified/custom built wolverine coming with a hawkeye camera installed (search wolverine hawkeye and you'll get info on it). It...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Wow this unit could be so much more. W/the adjusted firmware I've got a better bit rate and resolution, but the auto exposure and white balance is killing my transfers. I called kodak and they claim my unit is bad, so I'm swapping it out and getting another wolverine at the same time so I can...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

I modified firmware for my own and I'm recording at 1728x1296 at 22413kbps; see attached MediaInfo from a file the modded unit created. Regarding updated files, i'll let @Mac84 create those. I'm also thinking if we can find someone to decompile the firmware and see if we can turn off auto...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Good news, i've successfully dumped the rom, it's now with @Mac84 We'll see where to go from here, but this may unlock the mystery of the newer kodak machines.

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

This was all w/out an attempt to flash.. At first it wouldn't turn on with an SD card inserted, so I had to power on and quickly insert one before the boot was finished. Now it just won't even power on no matter what I do.. Amazon reviews show that a few people have had a power on issue.. Kodak...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Well the Wolverine has completely died.. so I have a kodak unit coming, @Mac84 before I mess with it when it comes, would you like me to get you the serial number and export the firmware? I read the entire thread here and it sounds like its roulette to see if you get one that may accept a...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Hello all! So much great info here.. I have a Wolverine Pro and I'm trying to lower the compression by increase the bit rate, and remove the sharpening (no idea how to do this). I followed the information provided by @Branchus; even downloading the original Wolverine Pro firmware and modifying...
