@JDW Yes, plenty, although I haven't run 8.1 for a few weeks, but that's why I finally went to 7.6, which has done wonderfully. I don't think I've had a startup freeze since making the switch. Another thing that I've noticed, is that whenever I had any kind of freeze when running System 8.1...

Well, as far as MacBench 3.0 is concerned, System 7.6 seems to be the sweet spot for my setup. Everything tests out virtually the same, except for the disk mix, where there is a significant difference. Note, I had to re-run the graphics mix for System 7.6, as when I rebooted, it was in thousands...

I did see a bit over there, but I haven't yet registered there yet... As much as I don't want to, I'm probably going to have to go to C, since so much of the literature is geared for it, or certainly not geared for BASIC. BASIC is more my 'speed', but it's slow. I'm presuming that compiled...

I got my MC88196DW80 from UT Source and it's working nicely at 49mhz output.

Care to be more specific about the compatible control panels? And I assume that you mean 7.5.5 ones...not 7.6. I may give it a go....for science! 😉

Back when I used Macs for a time, I played around with Hypercard and Applescript. I actually wrote a version of YAHTZEE in...I guess Applescript....I don't remember now and sadly, I don't see that the code survived the years. I did write another version in MMBASIC on the Color Maximite Computer...

I never used Pascal much. Started with horrible Microsoft 'Basic 2.0' on the Commodore 64, later on, some C on DOS PC's and later again, some Visual Basic. I think I did use a version of Pascal on Palm OS. I think I'm making progress on my issues...downloaded an old Macworld book, FAQ on MacOS...

🤔 James would probably know. I don't remember seeing anything about that.

I'm just getting adjusted to 7.6...7.1...it's too old! 😄 I think I got onboard back in the day, at 7.5, so I struggle with the older Systems. It's a state of mind! 🤓

I don't see any, pecifically for MacOS. Until now, I have done zero Mac programming, although I did purchase Futurebasic back in...the day 😄🥴. Now, I'm trying my hand...with a slightly newer version of Futurebasic (v2 vs. V1) and while I've generally been able to accomplish my goal, there are a...

So, Spicy O'clockers in the Northern Hemisphere, how are your machines handling warmer ambient temperatures? Before we finally broke free of near freezing temperatures in the early morning hours, the room where my machine lives, would see ambient temps below 20C. Currently, with daytime highs...

Identifying and confirming fake 68040 CPUs (especially the L88M mask)

It may be an acceptable risk, at least with this particular seller, as they appear to be willing to go to great lengths to avoid negative feedback, if one is looking for a full 68040 and also willing to put up with some aggravation. After a couple of months, my 'fake' is performing as well as I...

After using my maxed out system for a short while, I have backed my overclock down to ~49mhz. Realistically, there probably isn't a big difference between 49 and 50 and stability improves the slower the clock speed! Just recently I installed System 7.6 to compare with 8.1. It has been more...

    LC475 SAD MAC Chimes : (

The memory chips are 1Mx4, 8 chips makes for a total of 4 megabytes. With 1 chip removed, you're missing 1M bits from that 4 megabytes. If you run any of the memory checking utilities, Snooper say...it would show bad memory. Either that chip is bad somehow, or the soldering was perhaps not good...

    LC475 SAD MAC Chimes : (

Well that's progress! 🙂 Actually, what I meant was that it surprises me that you even get any chime without a complete set of 8 chips, whether or not it's a matched set. So, apparently that chip isn't quite compatible, perhaps the timing mismatch is a problem within this 'bank' of RAM. Perhaps...
