Hello! Recently I tried to turn on my Mac SE30 and got hit with a bad surprise... Monitor failing to turn on, raster of horizontal lines, and other errors. Took the board apart, and found this VLSI VC2982-0002 chip with a crack:

It may be hard to see, but there's definitely a crack (you can feel it with the finger). I must guess this is what is causing these weird issues.
I am afraid this could have been caused by a faulty power supply giving the wrong voltages, thus I am going to check that first before plugging it on again.

I am also taking this chance to recap the last two axial capacitors that I did not replace at the time.

About this chip... How easy is it to find a replacement? Also, if you have any information to share about it, please do! I'm interested into knowing what it's purpose is. Thanks!

I looked up the chip, and found some potential replacements (only one digit missing) which I'll link to here, and another one that is listed as "high quality second hand" here. Unfortunately, according to this forum, this chip is likely responsible for the floppy drive. Maybe try looking for loose connections to the solder pads in other chips: I was able to stop a high pitched noise coming from the speaker in my LC II with corrosion on the board by pressing down and wiggling one of the chips!

That is really interesting. I'll keep taking a look around then. Also I'm noting those links down. Thanks!
