I may be 71 but my se/30 reloaded first boot had me jumping and screaming with joy all over the place.

Last february, Grumpyengineer89 sold me an SE/30 reloaded board.

After painstakingly desoldering components from my 2 bombed boards and lovingly repopulating the reloaded board with all the new components I could source, it's now reloaded and ALIVE.

First boot two days ago was unsuccessful (nothing happened). Then I noticed that the PALs weren't placed in the right order (they were socketed, so right relocation was a breeze). Yesterday I got a death chime and horizontal stripes. And tonight I finally rechecked continuity on UH7 (which had been a real pain in the neck to solder) where I found 3 pins that still didn't make contact.

Thank you so much to this community who made it possible. These resources are unvaluable. Also big thumbs up to Grumpyengineer89 who sent me the board all across the pond.

Stay tinkering, stay different.

Peace.

I remember doing the same jumping up and down when my reloaded SE/30 booted...almost tipped the desk over and ruined it all

Congratulations!

Thank you. By the way, the black color doesn’t really help soldering on the board ;-)

Before beginning this project I trained my soldering on a practice board with extremely small components.

I do all my soldering under a binocular microscope.

I first tape the PLCC on the board. Then I solder 1 pin of each corner And I can remove the tape. Then it’s simply pin after pin.

It’s like a meditation. You have to be focused, calm, precise and patient.

Good luck!

Can I ask what part number you used for C6 (50V 1uF) and where you ordered it from?

I have tried ordering polymer tantalum cap for C6 from mouser and twice now they’ve sent the wrong part. This is what I am ordering:

I like the idea of tape for holding components onto the board. I was recapping an SE/30 and used Blue-Tak - it can be messy but it helped all my replacement capacitors be lined up perfectly. Used same technique to hold some SOIC package chips in video area that needed replacing.

Why do you say the black color doesn't help? I would think black would offer a lot of contrast to the solder pads and help in seeing them, but I could be wrong (I've never seen black silk screen board - looks cool)
