Networking with a PM6500/300 and a Mac SE/30

Good evening All, I have a few questions, so I'll try to keep this short. I have a local Gigabit network with all my computers connected. The 6500 is able to connect through Appletalk to my LC 475 as the both have ethernet cards in them. My SE/30 has a BlueSCSI v2 along with WiFi and can connect to the Internet without issue. Both the LC 475 and the SE/30 are running 7.5.3 Rev 2 and the 6500 is on OS 8. In the Appletalk and TCP/IP control panels for the LC and and 6500, the network is identified as 'Ethernet' and in the SE, it says 'Alternate Ethernet". I think, even though everyone is on the same physical network with 192.168.1.XXX IP address range, the SE doesn't see the LC and 6500 and the 6500 and LC doesn't show up in the SE, but the LC and 6500 do connect. So, is the 'Alternate Ethernet' a part of the BlueSCSI Dynaport network drivers which is isolating the SE from the other local computers, and how do I fix it? Do I need to re-install the SE network card? I hope not since I have a Booster 2.0 plugged into the PDS slot.

My next question is about the 6500. To keep this short, I blew up the partitions on the original IDE drive while trying to see if the original 9.1 OS has a driver to connect to my PCI USB 2.0 card. Instead the data is now inaccessible and I need an 8.0 system to fix it according to what the bootable CD-ROM indicates. I've only had this Power Mac a few weeks so, as a precaution, I purchased a 6500 restore CD-ROM and that's what got me going. But I have no other functional PowerMacs to fix the original drive, so I cobbled together an IDE to CF card and a CF to SD card adapters to build a SSD of 128 GBs. I'm restored to that but if I add an IDE extender cable (one male and two female 40-pin connectors) then will the Mac and OS recognize two physical IDE drives (master and slave) and mount the broken drive as a slave for me to try and fix it?

I do have more questions, but I'll ask later after I'm through this minor crisis.

Thank you for your time and patience,
Gerry

it may be better to separate your questions into different conversations. I'm afraid I can't help with either though. :-(

How do you bridge Ethernet and WiFi? Some bridging software doesn‘t correctly handle AARP packets, preventing AppleTalk communication. If you use NAT, it won‘t work anyway…

Keep in mind that IP addresses are totally meaningless for any AppleTalk communication since it is not part of the TCP/IP protocol stack.

You should probably look at getting an Ethernet card for the SE/30. WiFi on the BlueSCSI isn't something I would trust -- no offense to the developers -- just that there's too many variables with it for me to consider it anything other than a bonus.

I would also recommend using 7.1 on the SE/30 versus 7.5.3. 7.5 in general is a resource hog and without a good accelerator is sluggish. On a 68040 it's no big deal at all but on a slow 68030 unless you really need what it has to offer, you're better served with 7.1. Aside from the volume size issue, 7.1 will do OT if you want to but classic networking uses less resources. Even with an accelerator, 7.1 is quite capable as is.

Alternate Ethernet or EtherTalk Alternative is not a bad thing. I'm not sure if you're talking about a SE when you say SE or you mean SE/30.

The section titled Wireless Access in the link below is relevant to our discussion. A good plan would to test with FTP, and if that works, consider using AFP over TCP, but my previous comments indicate a better plan.
