Thank you for confirming. You can therefore flash any kind of Mac ROM SIMM now, regardless of whether the chips are removable.

Now that our dialog has concluded, I wish to say a few words to avoid offended anyone.

I like the SMC team members. I like the CayMac guys. I like Downtown Doug Brown. I want to get along with everyone where possible. I think most of us are like that. So... Don't worry. Be Happy. And remember Rodney King.

More to the point...

This thread is about "Crucible" software for "the SMC ROM SIMM."

Although you can use the ROMmate programmer to flash the SMC ROM SIMM, you wouldn't use Crucible software in that case. And so, people who don't have the SMC ROM SIMM and who also don't use Crucible really should start a new thread to further discuss details about that setup. Otherwise we risk stepping on toes. And no, I am not chastising anyone (and obviously not myself either) for having had our earlier discussions in this thread which somewhat deviate from the title. I'm just trying to be mindful of the feelings of the SMC team. We ought to keep this thread as close to its title as possible.

And I honestly do think Crucible is a fantastic piece of software. A lot of love and time has gone into it. It really is quite special and worthy of praise.

Happy flashing, folks!

Thanks for checking in, @JDW , really appreciate it!

Crucible will support both the SMC ROM SIMM and the SMC PDS ROM version.

Any 2MB ROM SIMM should basically work — including things like the BMOW ROM-inator II. Just note that the current ROM-inator II has a larger capacity than the original.

As for the PLCC32×4 ROM setups, they’re generally compatible as well...

And most importantly...enjoy your ROM hacking! These tools and cards are made by all of us developers so that you can have fun with them.
