Last thing you did with your G5?

Forgive me if this sort of thread has already been posted, although I did not see one upon scanning through this subforum.

Just as the title says, post the last thing you did with your G5 system.

I completed my personal NaNoWriMo challenge mostly using my Power Mac G5 by writing with it every single day in November until I had to export my progress to a modern MacBook and travel for Thanksgiving.

I posted this because the system is still extremely capable today, and I just can't help but wonder what everybody else is doing with their systems regularly these days.

Used it to load some MP3's to an old iPod nano as it was the only system I had that ran an old enough/new enough version of iTunes.

I have a station with 10.5 Server with NetBoot to boot other Macs.
And of course games, Max Payne runs here, the fished Radeon X1900 is great for this game in FullHD.

After the last reconfiguration of the disks, it is now without an OS and is waiting for me to finish with other Macs.

I'm also thinking about running Windows in VirtualPC, I think Dual-Core 2.0 GHz + 16 Gb RAM should be enough for a normal emulation of the environment to run winXP, but I haven't checked it yet.

Last thing I did to my a1117 was install a Mercury Accelsior M sata ssd to pcie adapter & the a1047, I was messing around with lubuntu but I think I will transition it to a shuriken Tiger box.

I use my Quad for GarageBand and Photoshop, largely. Does great for that.

Downloaded a bunch of photos taken that day from my DSLR into Aperture, then organized and edited them. Apple may have given up on Aperture, but I never did

Synced my custom iPod to mine via iTunes a few days ago. Found out that a handful of songs downloaded via yt-dlp (solely because the uploaders/artists didn't have the songs available anywhere for purchase) needed to be re-encoded into something that the G5 and the iPod can play without freezing or skipping, so that was weird.

Used my freshly removed from storage iMac G5 to remote into my newly acquired headless mini - plan on using that as a music server for Roon.

Also using the mini to internet share to the iMac over ethernet - for 2 reasons. 1. the bluetooth / wifi card is removed as it's on its last legs. 2. from what I can tell thats a more secure way of using the iMac to access todays internet. Have ipod 3G 30G somewhere in a box with a replacement battery that needs fitting - be interesting to see if my song ratings are still there...

Finished setting up my a1047 with a triple boot of PPC lubuntu 16.04, Shuriken 10.4.12 & Sorbet 1.5v 10.5.9. Got the latest PPC discord lite off GitHub & got past the borky captcha & was able to log in for the first time. Upgraded from the spinner that was in there to two ssds with Orico sleds. Tried out Eric’s proxy TD. Customized a few dock icons to my liking with Pixelmator 1.5.1 & img2icns, connected iTunes to my music NAS. Got Arctic fox updated, plank installed & docky up doing its thing. I’m about to compile fresh tffx w/dev toolkit for Shuriken.

I mostly use mine to listen to music in the kitchen. iTunes and Home Sharing stil work great. Still looking for a decent MOD player for it though. I also used it a while back to finally play all the way through Myst. Might work on the sequels next.

The last thing I did with a G5 - was preparing for sale. It was a dual 2.5ghz and I felt bad selling it but I just didn't have a use for it. I also have Dual 1.8ghz sitting under the workbench doing nothing - It is something I wont be touching unfortunately as I'd rather use G4 MDD.

Jealous of y'all with G5s, but love seeing the continued usage! The G5 I used in high school is likely no more as it probably made its way to DRMO when they decided to get rid of it. On the hunt for my own now.

Playing UT4K4 and Minecraft. Also GardenTunes.

I installed a mod for UT that replaces the monsters with Doom 3 Demons, and I'm having a blast. I also think I would move the Minecraft server to a Raspberry Pi and connect to it, that way I can keep working on this kingdom on other machines. Also, GardenTunes, the iTunes update to connect to current stations, absolutely awesome. Falling in love with internet radio all over again.

I forgot to change my power settings so the Mac went to sleep instead of finishing while I was asleep - Oopsie.

Lol. It’ll finish while I complete my $9.99 goodwill Sony CDP-CX53 refirb. Something is rattling around inside and the carousel CD arm keeps getting stuck spitting out CDs so I’m curious to pop it open and see what’s up.
