For some unknown reason Free Geek was closed today. I stopped by the University of MN ReUse warehouse to see what treasures I could find. I picked up a couple Mac USB keyboards for parts, and three laptops for parts:
  1. iBook 12" utterly destroyed, but the lid was intact and I think the screen may be ok
  2. MacBook Pro 13" motherboard broken out, keyboard bent, only things salvageable would be wifi card, optical drive, battery, and top/screen.
  3. PowerBook5,2 15" 1.25GHz G4 that was thrashed to remove the HDD.
On first power, the LCD appears to have a dark lower center... but after 15 minutes it seemed to even out. Maybe this will be a candidate for an LED backlight project.

I got it home and plugged it in, the battery seemed to take a charge. I found an old spinner HDD and a 1GB stick of PC2700 RAM and installed that, and surprisingly it booted right up.

Just to verify all things, I downloaded the Apple Service Diagnostics 2.15 from Macintosh Repository and burned a CD. All passed.

That fox worked fine.

So now I just need to get a spot welder or a steam roller and flatten that cover plate out.
