Tucows Mac Software Collection

I just saw on Twitter that the final upload of the Tucows Software collection has been uploaded to archive.org. In that upload is 71GB of Mac software of varying vintage which may or may not be of interest to people here. The list of files in the zip file can be found here.

Looks like there's either https://archive.org/details/info-mac-archive or https://archive.info-mac.org/

I see that. But it’s all files individually. What if I want the entire archive for my own offline storage ?

Dumb question (probably) but is the whole enchilada the 5.1gb tar.gz listed on net archive?

The 5.1gb tar.gz is the whole enchilada of the info-mac archive.

Or, maybe it is now? I never even considered grabbing my own mirror of these old software archives, but at around 5 gigs, this is like streaming a single movie so why not? Download is working for me right now.

Apologies - I checked the 3 links in the first post and all 3 say similar to this -

"Tucows" links in the opening post are no question dead for me as of today. Later links refer to "info-Mac" and appear to be working, but those are two different things, right? If different, then the Tucows archive is lost, unless @eric snagged it back in 2022.

But is there any thing in the TuCows archive that isn't already on Macintosh Garden?

The garden's mirror dir already had tucows but this archive had an additional 15gb across 1626 files. I've sent the difference up to the ftp server incoming dir for @fogWraith to merge in.

I wonder if it'd be a good idea to upload the final version of the info.apple.com FTP server to the 'garden, provided that doesn't get us in trouble with Apple themselves. I saved it locally to my MacBook Pro, so I can access everything via File Sharing on one of my other Macs - usually my G4, or directly on the machine itself. Also added some missing disk images to it, mainly newer OS X stuff.

Looks like it's mostly there already - if you were to give me a dir list i could compare it to whats there and see if either is missing anything

you could also have a look at https://asa.mac.gdn/ and https://adc.mac.gdn/ respectively, the username and password for the FTP which Eric is using above is simply archive

i believe the web links are also available over http. on another note, i don't think these are 100% complete, but it's something being looked into resolving if possible. there's been some manual additions in accordance with the original source, so there should at least be some minor differences to the available dumps found on IA.

i'll merge these in as soon as i have some free time, partial move (big heavy stuff) this weekend (apartment > house)
