I recently bought a 23" cinema HD monitor (Model M8536) second hand. It worked perfectly for about a week but then the screen would go black for about a second. Initially this only happed 4 or 5 times per hour but it got more frequent over the course of 2 days. In the beginning the image would return automatically but that also changed over time. Power cycling would fix it temporarily but after a while that that also stopped working. The sort periods that the monitor does work the image is completely perfect.

When the screen is black, the orange power led flashes in the following pattern: Short-Short-Long. According to the service manual this indicates a problem with the Inverter, backlight bulb or related cables & connectors. I have already replaced the 2 caps on the inverter board but that didn't solve it.

Based on the behavior of the monitor, is this likely a inverter problem or a backlight bulb problem?

I would replace both the inverters and the CCFL with LED units. Please see this thread.
I already came across that thread. Very impressive work! By myself I would never be able to come up with a solution like that. But your instructions seem to be pretty detailed. For the time being I'll use my 22 inch ADC monitor. I keep my eye out for a working example of a 23 inch model. If the CCFLs really are the problem I'll give you method a shot. Thank you for posting how you did it.
Wouldn't hurt to check your ADC power source is giving you a steady 24V
I have 2 different powered ADC to dvi converters. They both do not work with the 23 inch monitor. With my 22 inch ADC monitor they both work perfectly. So I suspect that thats not where the problem is.
