Here's my Mac Portable SPREADSHEET.
While a little odd for a TD "Resource" in that it's not hosted here, I nevertheless spent as much time on it as any good "Article" resource, hence my desire to post it as such.
The spreadsheet describes some little know facts about the two models of the Mac Portable, as well as info on the very first PowerBook trio. I compiled all that data over the 2 months I conducted research for my Portable video. It also contains my repair journey to date in the form of links to various threads here on TinkerDifferent. Don't overlook the tabs at the bottom to jump to different sheets of info.
I hope this sets the record straight about a lot of errors propagated on websites and even on YouTube. For example, many places say the first Portable (M5120) cost $7,300, which is flat out wrong. It was in fact, $6,499 in Sept. 1989. That info was gleaned from respected magazines and newspapers. The Spreadsheet also shows price declines over time, and shows how much cheaper the 5126 backlit model was, despite being better in several ways than the 5120.
Although I spent a lot of time reviewing it to ensure the content is very accurate, if any of you find any errors and can back it up with an official source, please reach out to me about it. And if any of you would like to be assigned as a maintainer of the spreadsheet, I'm happy to consider that too, because I won't live forever and I'd like the compiled info to live on in some form, for the good of future vintage Mac enthusiasts.
