68040 CPU & Heatsink CLIP for Color Classic Mystic (LC575 Motherboard)

In my application, I already had the heatsink affixed with ONLY 2-sided thermal tape (prior to using the clip). When using thermal paste, I’d like to say that I’m a big fan of MX-4 because it lasts for 8 years.

Which is really interesting because I've heard it's not an IPS display. Anyway, thank you for the feedback!

Uneven color tone on Color Classic's screen.

@Paolo B You earlier said you have 3 of these machines. Did you do the VGA mod on any of them? If so, was there a change in the color cast, before/after the VGA mod? I wouldn't think there would be, but I'm curious nonetheless.

Uneven color tone on Color Classic's screen.

These strips... I've never tried moving them with the machine on, but I suspect something will check on the screen when you do touch them. Just be careful you don't zap yourself if you do decide to touch them because the coil is nearby. Rubber gloves would be safe though.

    zzj video, booster 2.0 & synch030 on an se/30

As mentioned in my Synchr030/S review video at 8:55, you only need to solder on the ECS Tap daughtercard if you have NO PLANS to install an accelerator. You can install it and then just NOT connect the little wire leading from it to your Synchr030/S PDS card, if you have an accelerator, but...

Uneven color tone on Color Classic's screen.

But is it really the CRT which degrades, or rather degradation of PART of the degaussing coil surrounding the back of the CRT, and/or the magnets in the vicinity of the aforementioned discoloration? Or would it possibly pertain the the Yoke board or its connectivity to the CRT neck?

68040 CPU & Heatsink CLIP for Color Classic Mystic (LC575 Motherboard)

Forum member @jmacz and I have been exchanging PMs for a couple months, and he recently very graciously mailed me a few prints made with PAHT-CF — a carbon fiber enhanced filament. He offers 10mm & 11mm height versions of the clip on his Printables page here...

    SuperDrive (floppy) maintenance

I'm back from my trip. After searching far and wide, I simply could not find any schematics or technical whitepapers on the topic of these 1.44MB SuperDrives. That's not to say such information doesn't exist. It's only to say that I myself could not find it. Hopefully, someone better adept...

What capacitors for 1.44MB floppy recap?

I have updated the Mouser Cart. But keep in mind that I have the following important note displayed directly under that Mouser Cart URL in my video description... ⚠️ Before you buy this cart, check your 1.44MB drive's capacitance values so you can confirm your drive is the same as my 1.44MB...

    Just destroyed my SE/30

So the noise you saw was similar or the same as the noise I demonstrated in my video? The reason I ask is because I’m curious if anyone else experience the same kind of noise prior to adding the capacitor I showed in my video. While there is nothing inherently wrong with the Baby Face power...

    SuperDrive (floppy) maintenance

I’m traveling internationally at the moment and cannot provide you the perfect answer at this time. I can only say that Japanese web page does not include any engineering reference specification and instead covers disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, head related topics, and testing, with various...

    Just destroyed my SE/30

Actually, devices will keep working… until they don’t. :-) Or until you start getting unexplainable quirks. As stated previously, aging caps slowly age and their transformation into a resistor of sorts is not readily apparent, especially when you have multiple bypass capacitors in a circuit...

    Just destroyed my SE/30

Gerry, that’s incorrect. No fluid filled capacitors have eternal life. The gaskets where the legs come out breakdown overtime, and the fluid either leaks out or evaporates, slowly turning them into a resistor. That truth has nothing to do with capacitor plague in the early 2000s. There’s...

MAC SE PSU Sony CR-44M Question

I'm not sure what to say about the Ground and the 20V reading. As was the case with the oddball 7v measurement, it's clear there's something going on that needs to be figured out, either in terms of proper measuring (probes, contact the probes are making, or the meter itself and/or its battery)...

MAC SE PSU Sony CR-44M Question

Normal for a no-load test. If you twist the blue POT to max, they probably will go slightly higher. My measurement of 5.49v with the blue POT maxed out is given in my spreadsheet linked earlier. But through it all, I’ve never measured a no-load voltage as high as 7v on the PSU’s 5V output rail...

MAC SE PSU Sony CR-44M Question

I actually wish the POT in my SONY maxed out at 7V so I could pull it down to where the voltage at the motherboard would be 5.05v or there about. My max "no load" voltage, as set via the blue POT, is 5.49v, and you can see that on my spreadsheet here (created when I did the Baby Face PSU review...

BlueSCSI and Mixing SCSI Drivers Question

I absolutely sympathize and love your telling it like it is, because I often feel the same and say the same. I really want people to take me by the hand and guide me every single step of the way. And that's really what got me into YouTube, because so few videos out there do that. So I try to do...

Recapped SE/30 - Occasional Horizontal Screen Shake

There's no harm in buying the BU406G replacement from Mouser and doing the swap. Probably best to order other things like capacitors, etc. to make the cost of shipping more worthwhile. I may buy one of those parts too because I have an analog board that causes screen issues, and until now, I...
