I picked up a SE/30 off FB MArketplace and in the picture it had the vertical lines and a floppy (interestingly the bars were only on the background - the floppy icon was in tact:
But, it's an SE/30, so I figured its is worth trying to fix. I got it home and fortunately, the battery was...
I threw in some Eneloops in the case, added some velcro and put it in my Mystic Color Classic and it seems to be working. Was reading a bit over 4v after I charged them.
Settings are being kept between boots. I'll see how long it lasts.
Sorry, I should have made that more clear. Yes, we've all seen our favorite Maxwell lithium batteries leak. Typically those batteries are 20-30+ years old. However, I've had 1 year old alkaline batteries leak and start corroding things. If I can get 10 years out of a battery without worrying...
The possiblilities I can think of are:
1. You got extremely unlucky and both power supplies are non-working.
2. There is a problem with the logic board that is preventing it from sending the power on signal to the power supply. There's probably a way to short out some pins on the power...
So it was unable to power up before the recapping.
Then you sent the logic board for recapping, and it still refused to start up.
Then you replaced the power supply, and it still refused to power up from either the power switch or the keyboard?
Did it ever work after the recapping? Was it working before you replaced the capacitor?
I'm not sure if the problem can happen on the 840, but I have a Mac Color Classic (all in one) that would refuse to boot with the keyboard (there was no soft power button on the Color Classic), but I read...
Bumping. I can't be the only one looking to use these 3x AAA holders for this, as I got the idea from someone on some forum. Do Lithium non-rechargeable batteries have higher voltages, or did I get a batch that simply is not within spec?
I purchased some 3x AAA battery holders to use as a replacement for the 4.5V. I also bought some Lithium batteries to use because I heard they do not leak corrosive material when at the end of their life. When I threw 3 1.5v AAA batteries in the holder, the voltage is 5.3v. I expected the...
That would be great. So you can use a 512 chip in a socket expecting a 256? Basically, I think I just need the two 4.4 ROMs for u18 and u19 flashed. I believe that would be all I would need to get my card running and compatible with the latest version of the software.
I'm down south of...
OK, so I removed the case of the original hard drive, and as expected, the rubber stoppers for the drive head were a gooey mess. I tried cleaning with ISO alcohol, but the stickiness remained. So I put some kapton tape over both stoppers. Fortunately, I was able to boot off the original hard...
I think you're right. That one would likely be a much better choice. I checked the casing on mine and it looks like the usable space inside is about 6.5" long, by 4" wide, but 2" tall. The EPP-400-27 appears to be 5.00" L x 3.00" W x 1.38" H.
You think the 27V would be OK given the Cube is...
Yeah, I ended up following the guide that picture is from: https://www.edretrotech.com/2021/02/power-mac-g4-cube-power-supply.html
Works well, but not an original look because the PSU is too long to fit inside with the 3d printed extender. My fit wasn't perfect, so I have some white...
I have the 21" version. Great monitor. I believe I read somewhere that the 21" versions were less susceptible to dying. I could be wrong. Mine is great, except for the amount of space it takes up and the weight of moving it upstairs.
I picked up a non-working Powerbook G4, 15" recently that was said to have damage to the power port. When I plug it in, I got a light on the power port, so I was hoping it was something easy, like a bad power supply. Unfortunately. it would still not power on, so I took it apart to make sure...
Yes. Installed from the CD image burned from archive.org (5.0.3 Pro PPC and Intel: https://archive.org/download/BeosVersion5.0.3IntelAndPpc). I had to install it on an external BlueSCSI on my PowerMac 6500 because the CD wouldn't work in the TAM. But I then took the image and successfully used...
