Interview with Bob "Dr. Macintosh" LeVitus

I have a real Sluggo poster on my wall, including the tube. One of the best Mac ad campaigns.

PowerFox - new web browser for Leopard on PowerPC!

How much video memory do you have in the system? ISTR that Action Retro tried the 10.5 build on a G4 and had to upgrade his graphics card or he'd get a similar startup crash. (I'm not sure how he determined that was the problem, but it worked after he did.)

PowerFox - new web browser for Leopard on PowerPC!

That guy has a lot of great Tiger stuff. I'll need to try some of it this weekend. Saves me building it myself.

Ah, Bob Siebenberg's music. Not exactly Supertramp, but it will do. :)

Reconnaissance: Modern Diagnostics for your Classic Mac

Yup, so was I. I have a whole bunch of transcripts for this from my own TechStep but only had basic code working. Good to see someone got this over the finish line.

PowerFox - new web browser for Leopard on PowerPC!

I'm not sure I understand the question correctly, but you're likely going to end up linking against *$UNIX2003 symbols when you build against the 10.5 SDK, meaning the build plain won't run at all on 10.4 because those variants don't exist there (you'll get "symbol not found" errors from dyld)...

PowerFox - new web browser for Leopard on PowerPC!

Good question. A large part of it was the compiler I was using, which was still gcc 4.8 (I was intentionally very conservative with the toolchain). You are using a much more advanced compiler, so you should have fewer problems. Cursorily, if you wanted to do a Tiger build (from a Leopard...

MacWEEK preview of prototype ANS 700

Wow, nice find! Yup, those look like the 10Mbit ANS card, and that is definitely an ESB Shiner. I have two of the 10Mbit cards and one of the 100Mbits, but there never were very many. Not sure what they mean by greased skids in the front drive trays (ewww).

PowerFox - new web browser for Leopard on PowerPC!

Because UXP's widget layer is not too different from TenFourFox's, it should be possible to port the rest of the 10.4 changes (and there are quite a few), and it should "just work" without a lot of fuss on Tiger. The JIT is a different story. The basis would still transfer, but it would require...

PM 7200 doesn't see CDs, but boots up from them

Do other SCSI devices work properly? This sounds like something weird on your bus.

    Metal for Star Trek Fans

You can see some telltale signs on text and captions, but if you weren't looking for them, you'd likely never notice. And even that will improve.

Apple Network Server 700 boot issue

No, it can boot from any device, including the CD-ROM, in any key position. However, service position selects the alternate boot paths which will (after trying the floppy, next) boot from the CD automatically. It also lets you hard-power down the server with the front power button.

Apple Network Server 700 boot issue

You can manually boot it from the AIX CD at the ok prompt with boot cd or boot scsi-int/sd@0:aix.

    Hacking a Canadian video titler

Yes, Canada had its indigenous computers like the NABU, and they even had at least a few video titlers/character generators. The Scriptovision Super Micro Script comes all the way to you from beautiful Montreal, designed and built in Canada from 1985 to at least 1989. Sold as a prosumer video...

Color Classic Flyback Replacement from LC5xx

No, just the regular analogue board. It's perfectly useable but I'd like it to be a little taller.
