WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Nice to know we've got a few of these in good hands. I've only seen a little of the die imaging info out there. I've seen some of the gorgeous stuff Siliconinsider has done. How many folks are tinkering with exploratory die destruction? Lots of interesting info popping up in this thread, is...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Methinks you should post a new topic about Brainstorm. I'd forgotten about it. Reverse engineering the function of that proprietary "bus accelerator" will be a great topic for discussion. WAG here is that it might be treated as a Black Box and implemented on current hardware with open source...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Still haven't buzzed connections for the pinout you requested, LMK if you will need or want it. /PDS Tangent

Mod: Quadra 660AV 2 MB VRAM Upgrade

Been ruminating on this one whilst doing other things. It struck me that the VRAM SIMM expander only needs to support a 256K SIMM alongside the 512K SIMM as the 256K Bank on board will remain to complete the loadout. That would simplify things quite a bit in terms of bodge line requirements I...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Here you go, Zane. this is a rough-in of WarpSE version of what I'm planning for an SE/Plus specific rendition of Performer/32: Move your WarpSE over to the side enough to fork PDS connections over to Accelerator and up to proposed Radius MagicBus based MagicBus+ thruhole implementation. It...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Might not really be that bad. Bad info about Quickdraw support in this LEM workup, but interesting piece of equipment and a much more simple software hack for that kind of tinkerer hereabouts: https://lowendmac.com/2013/scuzzygraph-and-scuzzygraph-ii/ Take apart the drivers for printing to...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

No such luck for SE, single bit limited on the video front. :(

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I'd check SE/30 against FDHD release dates first. Then make a general request for SE serial numbers of both types of chassis? Yep, MLA member donated one to the cause last week! Said he has stacks of sheet metal gubbins.***** Given the low profile of current SMT components, Zane's proposal...

Mod: Quadra 660AV 2 MB VRAM Upgrade

There's a documented method for reliable QFP conversion to BGA from back in the day out there, but not posting about it in open forums. :p

Mod: Quadra 660AV 2 MB VRAM Upgrade

Not sure what you mean by that? PCB is in the one existing slot with both SIMMs on board. Pads are vacated and only the CAS/RAS control line bodge wires are soldered to them. IIsi is a PITA as the data bus is disjointed on the controller. Otherwise I'd be using adapters in the existing SIMM...

Mod: Quadra 660AV 2 MB VRAM Upgrade

Definitely, sick indeed! :p I've been looking at doing similar things with Macs hobbled by undersized banks of onboard RAM for years. I wonder if the approach I've been pursuing would work for you? Instead of stacking Chips, remove them and build a "VRAM SIMM Expander" for the single VRAM...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Ah, you beat me to the post. Any chance you can snake the lines from various locations within your current layout up to MagicBus locale? Overlayed copy of WarpSE pic was scaled to within a percent point of matching copy of Radius pic from NuBusMafia at 'fritter. Something doesn't add up?

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

edit: @mg.man Wondered about that myself, but decided it best that SCSI->Anything should be atop the chassis. Especially when SD is involved. as you won't really wanna have to be pulling the mobo/accelerator to change out media, no? Better to provide a PDS passthreu for use above the deck as...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Calls for yet a larger PCB, but well worrth considering. The MagicBus Adapter Card wasn't full width SE spec, co heading straight back with your PCB might be better than spanning the width of the case?

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Interesting, I only know of the two versions, with and without SE/30 PDS expansion sidewall provision? Nor have I ever seen an SE PDS card meant for vertical installation through such an opening. Radius Accelerators and MagicBus adapter cards made provision for their FPD and TPD Vidcards...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Can't imagine it coming anywhere close to the 16MHz Mac II and SE/30 family even at 32MHz, which MicroMac never offered BTW. That would have been the realm of mid and high level Perfomer Models with added features like cache and SIMMs IIRC. 32MHz is a "because I can" kinda thing, not sure how...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

PDS Card? The only way I know of to do Accelerator + PDS in an SE would be Killy Klipped accelerator and verticalized PDS Card in Late SE/SE/30 Chassis. Bolle has done that and I'm planning to. As for widening the card, I wouldn't bother. The multi-machine supporting Performer worked just fine...

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh IIcx Logicboard

Too late: suggested that you not populate that second bank of 30pin SIMM connectors over yonder. With PiHat headers we can test the 72pin SIMM conversion on that lovey bodge wired prototype. After you've got the board sorted out, desoldering the connectors/ bodging headers is likely more fitting...

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh IIcx Logicboard

Very, very nice, max. Can't wait to see your KiCAD schematic develop from this layout. Thinking about the Streeetch Limo IIcx proposal has been killing me. :p
