    Mac II Video glitch

Here are the ROM SIMMs I have: I attempted to reinstall the system tonight a few times, but never got to where the highlight wasn't glitching. Do you think I should be installing the machine-specific software version like in the screenshot below or the "works on any macintosh family" version...

    Mac II Video glitch

Oh interesting! I will do some more testing tonight. I have two partitions I've been testing with, one is Universal and the other, I believe, was machine-specific. So hopefully that is the culprit.

    Mac II Video glitch

I took the Toby card and VGA adapter and put them in the IIci and there was no highlight glitching, so it must be something specific to the II(x). I have a 256k and 512k ROM, so I swapped the 256k with the 512k, but no difference.

    Mac II Video glitch

It's 7.1 from the Legacy Recovery CD image. I also have a 7.5 install on this SD card I booted from just now and the issue is there as well. Could it be the VGA adapter I have? That's the only common denominator besides the display and the BlueSCSI. I'd have to check again, but I don't think...

I gave that a try just now and the behavior persists.

    Mac II Video glitch

I think my initial diagnosis was incorrect, the scrambling is happening at 4, 16, and 256. I attempted to record the monitor changes to better illustrate what I'm seeing. Here is the Toby card without the RAM expansion, only supports 16 colors: Here is the Toby card with the RAM expansion...

    Mac II Video glitch

I've been running in circles attempting to diagnose some garbled text when something is highlighted on screen. At first I assumed it was a RAM issue because I had been reconnecting traces on the problem board, but I've now encountered the issue on two Mac II's and a IIx. Snooper and APD have not...

    Desktop G3 Zip/Jaz bezel

@Fizzbinn kindly mailed me the print he made of this bezel, the results are pretty good! Here are a few shots of the jaz drive with it's original box I got it in. The disk was unopened so I don't believe this drive was ever used, the SCSI cable was still neatly factory wrapped as well. Thanks...

    Desktop G3 Zip/Jaz bezel

I ran across this thread previously, but the models I see are for the mini tower not the desktop case: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/power-macintosh-bezels-9600-g3.3221/

    Desktop G3 Zip/Jaz bezel

Here's the 1.1 version of the stl file if someone wants to attempt to stitch the two models together. @Fizzbinn would you be able to provide the measurements of your bezel at your convenience?

    Desktop G3 Zip/Jaz bezel

It'd be neat to have a version of this with the larger opening as an option. I know very little about 3D modeling/printing, unfortunately. Maybe just printing the blank and taking a dremel to it is this quickest route… 😆

    Desktop G3 Zip/Jaz bezel

Does anyone know anything about the bezel seen in this photo? It's from an auction on shopgoodwill.com and I've never come across a bezel like this for the Desktop G3 case before. I have an internal SCSI Jaz drive I've been planning to use without a cover plate because the disks are larger than...

    Macintosh IIfx Success Story

I have 4 IIfx boards I’m in the process of recapping for a friend. The cap kits I ordered came with replacements for all of the factory-installed tantalums, but the only tantalum I was planning to replace is C1 with a 35V 47uf cap I have. I’m wondering if I should I replace all of them with new...

    Corroded legs on IIsi CPU

Well, this board was previously working before I washed and re-capped it. Afterwards, the issue was that it would boot, but only without RAM SIMMs installed which left it with only the 1MB onboard RAM. At first, I was suspicious of the RAM buffer chips, so I swapped those with another board. No...

Recapped Mac II with NUBUS issue

Small update: I've been booting from a BlueSCSI V2 and I setup a new image with a minimal install of 7.1 to try out. There are no video artifacts afaict and Snooper has been running the 20 pattern RAM tests all afternoon with no errors. I'll have to try a full install of 7.1 and maybe a...

Recapped Mac II with NUBUS issue

After failing to find any further broken traces, I decided to soak the board in IPA yesterday for about 8 hours. There was starting to be a fair amount of flux residue left over so I wanted to rule out that a dirty board was exacerbating things. I let it dry over night and booted it this morning...

I am dealing with a IIsi exactly like this and have gone through the exact same steps! 😭
