G4 iMac and its intense heat. A brainstorm.

That's why one would need to "figure out a way"... The particular model I listed -- which I am rather fond of for what I am beginning to suspect are irrational reasons given the overall reliability I'm seeing, but then again, even if unused, the drives are very old and likely to be suffering...

I Do Not Think There Are Enough Caps On This 7200 Board...

Ah, well, beyond the obvious of inspecting the board, that's all I've got. Hmmm. Let's see... Ah, here we go. If you do not have this, it should keep you busy a while. Here's the 7200 schematic. You can check your connections if you have lots of patience and a continuity meter. I...

Portable RAM Card 1MB -> 3MB by adding 658128ALFP chips. Is the B revision acceptable?

Too bad you can't use HM658512ALFP chips, or could you? I have about 300 of those sitting here doing nothing. Got me wondering. Looks like the pinout isn't quite compatible. As might be expected, A17 and A18 are the main problem. I was hoping they were NC on the 658128, which would leave...

I Do Not Think There Are Enough Caps On This 7200 Board...

Can you tell if it is booting (hard drive or floppy drive sounds) even if t here is no video? If it is not booting, or you can't tell, and even if it is booting, but it won't solve your issue in that latter case, replace the heat sink compound between teh PPC601 and the heat sink if you have...

G4 iMac and its intense heat. A brainstorm.

Or figure out a way to replace the full sized optical drive with a Slim/laptop optical drive. That frees up a lot of thickness and adapters are fairly easy. Although for parallel ATA one would probably need a serial to parallel adapter as well. Drives like the TS-T632 are getting very tough...

    4MB Macintosh II & IIx 30-pin SIMM's

Anyone ordering PCBs for 30 pin or 72 pin (or 64 pin) SIMMs should remember/be aware, that they need to specify 1.2mm thickness, and actually, the thickness should be 1.27mm. 1.2mm will probably work okay in newer, unworn sockets, but may be too loose. PCBs these days default to 1.6 mm...

    Lead Time for JLCPCB Order?

And boards arrived on my doorstep today. Today is Wednesday, unless I am very confused (easy to lose track of day of week after retirement) and I ordered early Thursday morning. So less than one week from order to delivery (in Texas) for this reorder. There were a couple of emails with...

Dynamic Engineering Portable PDS RAM Card

Thank you. I don't know the cause of the issue. Hearing that it existed was the extent of my knowledge. I appreciate the extra detail you provided.

Dynamic Engineering Portable PDS RAM Card

I have not been following in detail. Have you looked at addressing/solving the loss of performance when the address strobe signal is used for RAM greater than 5 MB (4 MB?)? Apologies if I'm mistaken about that. I think I saw it in one of @JDW 's videos.

    Lead Time for JLCPCB Order?

I just did a "reorder" of my 2021 order on JLCPCB of the boards in question. The price of the boards was about the same at ~$50, plus a smidgeon. Last time, the shipping was $3... This time shipping is about $40 with another $18 in tariffs and about $8 in taxes. Total ended up at $120...

    Lead Time for JLCPCB Order?

The boards I'm looking at are ~4.5" X 1.25" (113MM X 32MM) 4 layers. I think the last time I ordered 20 of them from JLCPCB they were a little over $50 total, including shipping, but that was back in 2020 or 2022.

    Lead Time for JLCPCB Order?

Thank you for the heads up. I will definitely compare carefully before ordering. Although, if PCBWay takes forever, maybe I need to order now... Or punt to next year.

    Lead Time for JLCPCB Order?

Customs duties were more than 100% of the cost of the boards? How does that happen? I ordered some parts from Japan last month and I think customs ended up being about 15%. Different countries I guess?

iMac G4 M6498 - Anything to Watch For?

Found them here: https://www.performance-pcs.com/products/antec-92mm-smartcool-fan-sleeved-smartcool92-d-html?variant=45715156664535 at a purported price of $1.06 each. I've never ordered from those folks before.

Text Adventure game - help me finish it

Are you aiming for a modern Mac OS game? As opposed to running on old Classic Mac OS, like System 9? I ask because (IIRC) "The Lost Treasures of Infocom" game collection was a large collection of text based games that all (or most?) ran on the same framework application with a change in the...

    Lead Time for JLCPCB Order?

It's been a while since I ordered any boards. How much time should I allow from order placement to delivery in the USA for a JLCPCB order? Whatever shipping is inexpensive, not anything expedited and expensive. I'm thinking about assembling some boards for VCFMW 2026 and am working out by...
