Something else I should add: have you inspected the logic board at all? On both of the Classic machines I've worked on, the capacitors were leaking quite badly and needed to be replaced. Definitely worth checking if the board has been recapped at all, and if not, getting that done to preserve...

So not had any luck identifying which resistor(s) might be a "Mac switch" on my card yet. So if anyone out there knows more about these cards and can suggest more info, I'd welcome it!

Sorry if it sounds like an obvious question, but has this machine been recapped? Just thinking a partial short from leakage could perhaps be the culprit, and these era machines probably all have leaky caps (as did my Macintosh IIci).
