iMac G3 Graphite 700MHz not booting, possibly cooked

When the power button was pressed, there was a brrzt as the crt degaussed, but nothing else seemed to happen. There was no other obvious activity as I recall.

iMac G3 Graphite 700MHz not booting, possibly cooked

As I say to everyone who has one of these with these symptoms: leave it plugged in for about a week, testing periodically if you wish. I was able to revive 3 400MHz G3s with this method, no recapping required. In fact I had initially recapped one of them only to find it did nothing to fix the...

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

Exactly. The built-in ethernet makes it a godsend. Annoying that it used Apple's proprietary AAUI connector, but at least it's not that difficult to find an AAUI-to-RJ45 Ethernet tranceiver.

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

Ah you were in that thread! How funny. :D While it would be nice to have a card cage for my 540c, it's not something I'm holding out for, unless it happens to stumble into my lap somehow. More of a novelty to me than strictly useful; there are plenty of ways of shuffling data to/from a...

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

It is indeed quite rare, or at least people are holding on to the ones that are left, as when they do pop up for sale on ebay, they end up going for hundreds of dollars (way too much, imo).

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

Here is a thread from a few years ago in which MLA user Charadis does a teardown of a Rev. C module, the most useful module, since it is compatible with Wifi PC cards: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/powerbook-500-series-pcmcia-module-rev-c-teardown.30745/

    Quantum ProDrive 80S Troubleshooting

I've watched how to make a clean box in the past, and while it's certainly intriguing, it's not something I currently need right now as I'm not doing this nearly enough. But it would be a really good idea if I were to suddenly end up with a precious drive in need of recovery!

AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles (a short review)

The only "website" for the AirTalk (that I'm aware of) is that original thread. If you're interested, you can leave a response to that thread, or your can DM cheesestraws directly via 68kMLA.

    Quantum ProDrive 80S Troubleshooting

I will say, I had cleaned the top platter with IPA after contaminating it at one point in the restoration process. It left behind streaks (which are still there, even now that it's functioning). At one point before it began working, I had gently buffed with a microfiber cloth a small spot near...

    Quantum ProDrive 80S Troubleshooting

Was able to copy the entire drive! Now that that's done, I will try making a proper disk image. I guess the hard drive was able to recover itself somehow with enough power cycles? EDIT: And success! Now running Disk Doctor on the drive... (Not that I expect to use this drive in the long term...)

    Quantum ProDrive 80S Troubleshooting

There are three small caps on the controller board, as you can see. I suppose they could be replaced, but that seems unlikely to be the issue, since it is still doing something.
