Macintosh SE Won't Boot System 7

I got mine from SamplerZone - https://samplerzone.com/products/chicken-rascsi-sd-scsi-drive Definitely recommend them, especially if you don't already have a Pi. Their focus is on vintage samplers, but I told them mine was for a Mac and they put some images of System 6 on there. It's a Pi Zero...

Upgrading SE with SE/30 Logic Board... Doesn't Fit

Mine has a regular fan, not the cage one.

Upgrading SE with SE/30 Logic Board... Doesn't Fit

Do you have a FDHD? I have a very early version and I believe there was a revision later on that changed the chassis.

Upgrading SE with SE/30 Logic Board... Doesn't Fit

lol, that was what I thought too! You can see some pictures I found in the 68kmla thread - the offending opening for the 14-pin cable is bigger, and there's an opening for a vertical PDS card.

Upgrading SE with SE/30 Logic Board... Doesn't Fit

My solution, by the way, was to use an ATX extension cable and make some... modifications... to it. It should work in the short term but longer-term I should get an actual SE/30 chassis. Please let me know if you have one I could buy off you!

Disk Jockey, a disk image file maker for your retro stuff - Beta for version 3!

That looks awesome! Great work. Does it allow you to add files to the image? That's a big feature that's currently a challenge with these images - the only thing I've found to work reliably is CiderPress, which is old and clunky and only for Windows (and Wine, but that makes it clunkier haha).

Upgrading SE with SE/30 Logic Board... Doesn't Fit

I've posted this on 68kmla and gotten some responses there if anyone is interested: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/upgrading-se-with-se-30-logic-board-doesnt-fit.40566/#post-439071

Upgrading SE with SE/30 Logic Board... Doesn't Fit

I bought an SE/30 logic board to upgrade my SE, thinking it would fit, and it... *almost* does! But, the PSU connector is just a little bit further down on the SE/30 board, and whatever revision of the SE I have has a chassis does not seem to like it. You can see in these pictures that the PSU...

    Just a PSA...

I don't think all G3s have that opening - I had a 333MHz model a while back and think the whole logic board tray needed be removed? Although even that wasn't too terribly difficult

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Well.... reading that was certainly a trip.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

So high clock speeds, lots of heat, and sub-par IPC? Motorola was just ahead of the curve, they made a Pentium 4!

    Just a PSA...

First time I saw this I checked my SE. I thought had already had the battery replaced until I saw the label - "Made in West Germany". It still had ~1.1V going on it!

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

What kind of compatibility issues do the other models present? Side note - has anyone ever hacked a '060 into a Mac? Sounds like they should be fully compatible, but probably hard to find.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Got it, that’s really interesting! What’s the advantage of using the 68k on this card instead of a 020, 30, or 40? Is it mainly cost/complexity? I now have this vision in my head of a Quadra 840AV-B&W Compact hybrid that probably isn’t feasible, however I don’t know enough to know why.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Right, but it sounds like there's also some neat tricks happening here with video processing, not to mention that 25MHz vs 16MHz is a huge difference and may offset architectural improvements of the '030.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Any estimate for how this will end up performing? At 25MHz & with the other improvements you've talked about it sounds like it would be a good deal faster than an SE/30, just without the extra memory capacity. Is that accurate?

    Keyboard—Help Identify what I have

I think there's just a couple of revisions on it. I bought this Japanese one that looks the same (other than the different layout): https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/s1030597488 Edit: I think ours is the SMK version - your Caps Lock key should have a mechanical lock in it, versus a membrane one

    Keyboard—Help Identify what I have

As you noted, it's an Apple Keyboard II. Here's some more information on it: https://deskthority.net/wiki/Apple_Keyboard_II It's kinda hard to tell, but it might have been painted - is that paint on the rubber feet in that 4th picture?

Mac Plus stuck on "Welcome to Macintosh"

Have you verified that it's the floppy controller and not the drive itself? On my SE, the floppy works but it can sometimes take a few tries to realize the floppy is actually there.
