Everything you wanted to know about the BBU, but were afraid to ask...

The large 84-pin PLCC chip is the BBU. Now a little history - VTi were the original company that Apple contracted to make the BBU, based on VTi's ASIC design/logic gate layout. However, it's common in the industry, well, moreso at the time, to designate a second or even third source of your...

Logic Board - Macintosh Classic Reloaded

Hi Chris - any 42 pin dual wipe socket should be just fine - I get mine from eBay UK, might as well get a few, just in case! :)

SE/30 was working one moment, then it wasn't

Hmm - that could be a video RAM failure as well - still, worth re-seating everything and checking the caps aren't leaking everywhere.

    1979 Olympus OM-10 SLR Camera

Good to know! The first SLR i ever had was somewhat more basic, despite being newer - a Pentax P30. I shot typically in black and white and got excellent results from it: I was contemplating kitting this whole camera out with a filter, a lens hood, hot shoe flash and perhaps another lens...

    1979 Olympus OM-10 SLR Camera

I just found this in a charity shop for £30 - a bargain if you ask me, even if it had issues. However, i picked this thing off the shelf and to my amazement, it seems to work just fine. Shutter speed, ISO, all adjustable and seem to work - the battery inside it is still chugging away! The film...

    630 mini?

I will say this: IIci cases also work with Quadra/Centris 650 boards, and PM7100 boards, assuming you cut some of the port plastic away at the rear - i have this planned for a build based around a Q650 board ;)

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Haha - well, i don't mind putting together a group buy for T-Shirts/Polo Shirts - but perhaps @Mac84 would like to have a crack at it, too :D

This is what a bad Macintosh SE/30 Video ROM looks like

Anything 120ns or faster should be fine.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

@Paolo B generally they don't tend to fail - it's also a part that's been replicated, so you don't need to worry about them not being available anymore either. Plus, general things such as trace lengths for signals, interference etc. There's a time and place for sockets :)

I have literally *lost* the flyback transformer i received in the post. I had it, in a bag, and then i've put it down somewhere and it's been tidied away somewhere - goddammit >_<

A connundrum: Super clean original Macintosh II... keep it stock or swap in MEGA IIfx upgrade

Just my tuppence here, honestly, in this case, the II is worth restoring on it's own. IIfx cases are more abundant than working IIfx's, due to the double maxell bombs they frequently contain - I have two IIfx cases, one of which is being given away to @mg.man simply because it's huge, bulky and...

This is what a bad Macintosh SE/30 Video ROM looks like

@Mac84 I'm pretty sure the Video ROM is a standard 27C64 - however, rather than bother with sourcing old stocks of UV EPROMs, get yourself an AT28C64 from Mouser for a few bucks and program it in the TL866 :)...

Converting from CRT to LCD and updating video output in Compact Macs

Yeah i'd use a sheet of acetate or something to mount it - no need to 3D Print - just drill the holes - quicker, cheaper, easier. I never mounted mine in the case, it's role was as an external test bed PSU - but it worked just fine. With an LCD no analogue board is ever needed, just tear it...

In need of help for a Tandy 1000 keyboard

Hmm - we have a few people in the 3D printing section that may be able to help with the modelling, but the reference keyboard might be the difficult bit. You can get something like Polycam, though - do a 3D scan of the original object and then that might work as a reference? :)

Converting from CRT to LCD and updating video output in Compact Macs

Well, i can power the SE and SE/30 logic boards just fine off a Meanwell RT-65B Power Supply, without even using the Analogue board. If you were using an LCD screen, that PSU would provide more than enough power to run the screen, too. The logic board doesn't care about the analogue board...

    Reverse Engineer the Spectre GCR?

Well, i've never seen the hardware in real life - but looking at this image, the layout looks simple - the question is, what's on the PAL (there's at least 1 there) and what are the other chips?
