    Powermac G5 Bench / shelf

Pe One holds the innards of a water cooled on that had so much corrosion ships were just falling off the board. The other powers on with no boot chime. I likely should have stripped the internal parts to make them less of a pain to move around, but they are still filled. Fireplace setting...

    Powermac G5 Bench / shelf

I saw someone on reddit recently posted a picture of a bench in a school with two Powermac G5 towers as the base. I needed some more storage space for my Macs, and had two non-working G5s, and some woodworking tools. I really liked the idea to route the edges of the wood to fit in the curves...

Anyone interested in VGA/DVI to ADC adapter?

Ah, I didn't realize that and thought it simply used the analog pins (blades) on the DVI connector to send an analog signal. There's a user on reddit claiming to use his ADC CRT with the adapter board I made to run the ADC CRT off his Mac Pro (). I don't believe the Intel Mac Pro ever came...

Anyone interested in VGA/DVI to ADC adapter?

I know Apple has a DVI to ADC adapter / Power supply. I know of (and own) the Dr Bott's DVIator for connecting a computer with DVI out to an ADC monitor. The problem is, they only support digital signals, which means you cannot use them to connect a more modern computer to the best of all ADC...

    Radius Full Page Display connector

I actually had my Apple 15" multi-scan display with HD-15 cable around, so I hooked it up to see what it would do. I do get a picture, but it is blue and distorted (resolution / refresh rate difference?). I can see the image well enough to move windows around, and even move the windows between...

    Radius Full Page Display connector

Oh, so I can use a HD15 to DB15 adapter with the multi-sync setting to connect it to a normal VGA multi-sync CRT? I'll give that a try.

    Radius Full Page Display connector

So I actually have the 75Hz version: https://web.archive.org/web/20120618162410/http://radius.vintagebox.de:80/RadiusQA/FPD_75Hz.html Looks like it uses a DB15 to HD15 cable normally. It sounds like it also is compatible with the Apple Portrait Display. I'm hoping that I can possibly find /...

    Radius Full Page Display connector

Anyone know which Radius FPD would use this connector? Picking up this Mac SE today, but unfortunately the owner doesn't have the display to go with it. Most of the FPDs I've seen have a connector with 9 pins, I believe. This 15 pin connector is different. Did they have a 15 pin to 9 pin...

Trying to get SE/30 running with Various Issues

All my SE/30 caps looked good, but I had low audio. When I removed the caps, they had leaked badly underneath and you couldn't see the leakage under the caps. I'd say replace them all now. They are almost certainly damaging components, and are definitely out of spec.

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Yes, you have to make sure you get an airtight seal with your plastic wrap, which shouldn't be hard. I probably should have said this, but I assumed everyone did, but you have to wrap the back sides of the piece to make the component completely, 360 degree covered in plastic. It's not just...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Also, I forgot to note that when I do the plastic wrap, I try to ensure I squeeze out any air bubbles under the plastic. I think large air bubbles could allow the peroxide to dry out, which could be the cause of some people's problems.

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

I only use that method now. It allows me to tackle things quickly because I can do it overnight and don't need to babysit. And as I said it's forgiving and I've not yet had anything come out splotchy. Let us know how it turns out. I've had so many people claim the plastic wrap is too...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Yes, too white overall, but also some pretty bad splotchiness where I think the peroxide dried out in the intense sunlight... However, it gave me the ability to risk painting it with little fear it would make it look worse.

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

I agree. The problem with the sun is, whether people realize it or not, the intensity varies greatly depending on where you do it / what time of year. So getting it right requires a good deal of babysitting. Using the LED box is much more forgiving and the difference of leaving it in the box...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Interesting. I’ve never had any splotchiness with LED lights and plastic wrap. I have only seen inconsistent results with wrap when exposing it to direct sunlight. And I feel like it’s due to focused, high intensity sunlight and cooking some parts of the peroxide. I’ve retrobrighted probably...

Sony Trinitron - one of the GREATEST TV and monitor technologies in history 📺

I bought myself a scratch and dent Sony Trinitron TV for college. It was a fantastic looking TV (except for the gouge out of the plastic on the top). Sadly I think I got rid of it shortly after I graduate. Technically, I have one today, since I have the Macintosh Color Display, which is a...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

I haven't had much luck with sun alone, especially since I feel like that heat and humidity for long periods is not the best. I think the "low and slow" method of using lower powered UV LED lights combined with peroxide creme, wrapped in plastic wrap to keep the creme from drying out has never...

    NeXT and BlueSCSI question

Good to know if my old SCSI2SD ever dies. I bought it and struggled with it long before BlueSCSI was a thing, but will certainly be replacing it with a BlueSCSI if that time comes.

    I miss the internet...

I agree. The one part of personally hosts sites, however, is that often they are not maintained. Someone stops paying the DNS registration fees, doesn't keep their dynamic DNS entries updated. And when that happens we can lose a wealth of (sometimes unique) knowledge. The Wayback machine can...
