    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

Assuming the drive even works as an internal unit, which I've not tested yet, I suppose it could become an OS 9 ONLY machine since only OS9 can see the SSD. But I prefer to run OS X Tiger with my Cubes too. Unfortunately, I've spent a lot of time on this, and I really don't know what to do to...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I did not partition. iPartition is OS X software. When I launch iPartition in Tiger, it cannot see the SSD. Nothing within Tiger sees the SSD. That is the issue which I don't know how to solve. OS 9 sees the SSD, however. I am confused about why.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

@iPhil64 Could you post an iPhone video (with audio) of some of your boot attempts? If no drives are connected, it won't "boot" but it will "power on." So when you make a video, please tell us if there are any SCSI or floppy drives attached. If nothing is attached, then it would simply be a...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

👍 GOOD NEWS My Adapter setup works with the 128GB mSATA SSD as an external FW400 drive. mSATA to 2.5" IDE Adapter (red PCB below) 2.5" IDE to 3.5" IDE Adapter (green PCB below) IDE to FW400 interface (gutted years ago from an old ext. FW drive, and confirmed working with my spinner IDE drives)...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Were both internal floppy drive connectors DISCONNECTED at the time you powered on? Even if there was no disk inserted into a floppy drive, I am curious if the motherboard is attempting to access an attached floppy drive and then crashing with the sad Mac. If you had any such drive attached...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I will of course return to this topic tomorrow. After work tomorrow evening, I also have plans to work more on my Color Classic Analog Board video, as well as test a new SSD solution that works in a G4 Cube. Stay tuned!

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I do hope Kai will chime in to tell us what PLCC extractor he used. But it's usually the case where I am the lone man on the planet who cannot figure out how to use the tool that works for everyone else. Anyway, I bid you all good night!

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Gentlemen, I've had the past week off (Japanese Golden Week), but tomorrow is the start of my new work week. I need to get to bed early this evening. Hopefully, @Kai Robinson can chime in with his thoughts about (1) the cause of the 0000000F 0000000A sad Mac, and (2) the cause of the display...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

No way I am paying those prices when something the shape of an ice pick will do the job. I just used an alternative tool I had on hand, which was a spike tipped voltage probe. Even a tiny flat head screw driver might have worked. Logically, I should have been able to use that PLCC extractor...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

@iPhil64 Very interesting. You get a normal bong, then the Sad Mac. And that icon is shifted to the left instead of being in the center of the CRT. You also said you get a Mouse Cursor. I assume that means the "Arrow Pointer." You can move it around and see the arrow? I can't see it in...

What about sound? Sometimes when you get a Sad Mac, you hear "the chimes of death." Any sound like that?

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Note that I just edited my previous post to answer your second question. So you were able to boot to the desktop and then after that, when you tried to boot again, you got the sad Mac?

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I assume you mean "rotated 180° from the incorrect position." That would create problems with serial communications, but it shouldn't cause the sad mac icon to be shifted out of position. @Kai Robinson , would you have opinions on what could cause the shifting? Of course, we also need to...

    Color Classic analog board trouble

Regarding current draw on the PRAM battery, I found this old post of mine. As you can read there, I put a bench top power supply on the disconnected LC575 motherboard and used an ammeter to measure a 63µA current draw (constant). That is a bit higher than your 42.5µA measurement, although both...

    Color Classic analog board trouble

Yes, my motherboard is an LC575, not a stock CC or CCII motherboard. The stock PRAM battery is a rather large 4.5V RAYOVAC (even for the stock CC motherboard), and while there are replacements found on EBAY these days, I refuse to pay upwards of $30 (not including shipping) for one, even though...

    Color Classic analog board trouble

I have no proof, but I think that as long as you have a cord in the wall socket and have the switch on back flipped ON, your PRAM battery won't drain at all. If there is drain, it would be the normal losses as if the battery were sitting on a shelf. But the moment you yank the power cord or...

    Color Classic analog board trouble

I have finished my PowerKey-ON temperature measurements (CRT ON, HDD spinning, booted to Finder doing nothing). My watt meter shows 68W (0.94A@104VAC) with the CC in the booted state. I am using Japan's 100V 60Hz power. Also note that I have a spinning hard drive installed, a IIe Card...

    Color Classic analog board trouble

After keeping my CC in the same state for 24 hours (switch at back of CC ON, but CC shutdown), my wattmeter tells me the following... 0.192kWh x 365 days = 70.08kWh / year ¥5.59 x 365 days = ¥2,040 / year (roughly US$20/yr) After 24 hours, power consumption stabilized to 8.3W (down from 9W...

    Color Classic analog board trouble

It is bad news for electricity bills, but the alternative of keeping that switch off is also bad because it will drain your PRAM battery dry pretty fast if you don't use that machine often. And there are big disadvantages to totally removing the PRAM battery. I think it's bad design. The...
