Macintosh SE - Discrete logic GLU replacement

@Melkhior Excellent question, i wondered that myself - but then i saw that IRQ is fed in by the 53C80 SCSI chip to GLU PIN 3 - i now realised i made a boo-boo by naming that one /IRQ or _IRQ in KiCAD. should just be IRQ, with the /IRQ being purely internal between gates...see, this is helping...

Dune II campaign done (Harkonnen playthrough) - attempt at video capture

I never played Dune II, i was never really into the Dune universe until recently (thanks to Denis Villeneuve for that). What i'm grateful for though, is that Westwood went on to create Command & Conquer with that engine, iirc :)

Other vintage computers - Spectrum and others

Hey dude - sorry for the delayed response on this. Things like categories are still 'in flux' and are open to being tweaked. I'm the one responsible for the intial layout of the categories, so the blame/praise can land on my head! :D Initially, my though was this - I wanted a place that was...

Logic Board - Macintosh Classic Reloaded

Hi! The Classic Reloaded is not available to the wider world quite yet - although, if you're based in the UK, I can send you a near final revision board that needs a trace cutting and two tiny bodge wires adding, then it works 100% fine - it's pre-populated with most of the passives on the...

    PowerPC G4's - MPC7410RX500LE

Just throwing this link in, as DV Warehouse has changed their site, and their search functionality is a bit crap: https://www.dvwarehouse.com/661-2254-apple-processor-module-for-power-mac-g4-400mhz-pci.html

    The SMD Codebook

SMD devices are, by their very nature, too small to carry conventional semiconductor type numbers. Instead, a somewhat arbitrary coding system has grown up, where the device package carries a simple two- or three-character ID code. Identifying the manufacturers' type number of an SMD device...

Macintosh SE - Discrete logic GLU replacement

After Porchy from Jammaarcade got us across the finish line with reverse engineering the original HAL16L8, i thought the functions might be possible to replicate using discrete logic. This would of course be to benefit those that are making an SE Reloaded board, who don't want to, or can't...

    Mystic Overclock - A Spicy O'clock Adventure

Actually... The logic on the Apple IIe card, is the Mega II chip and the IWM. That's literally it. The rest is 74LS series logic, a 65C02 CPU, a PROM and some DRAM. The Mega II is the Apple II on a chip. The schematics are available for a IIe, so...nothing really impossible - would just take...

iBook G4 - logic board repair

The silkscreen marking indicates that it's a resistor, with a value of 390ohms. Get a multimeter and measure the resistance across it when powered off. If the reading doesn't tally with the rating, replace it. It might be shorted, but equally something it's connected to is shorted and that...

RAM for LC575 & Color Classic Mystic

Just a quick note that EDO is iirc a superset/extension of FPM - and you can make an EDO SIMM work as an FPM by tying /OE to /CAS, iirc - @Zane Kaminski had more information on this, though: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/5v-fpm-dimms.136/post-1190

Everything you wanted to know about the BBU, but were afraid to ask...

What differentiates the Macintosh SE from the rest of it's forebears? Well, the fact that the PAL's of the earlier 128K, 512K & Plus machines have gone away and been replaced by a single custom ASIC. The original Macintosh was designed around a single ASIC called the IBM or 'Integrated Burrell...

    SE/30 Reloaded - Complete!

For the SE. The GLU on the SE is a combination of logic elements into a single chip because they didnt have the space to use discrete logic. In the Classic, they used discrete for the remaining functionality as they'd removed the dual floppies so half the functionality wasn't needed. GLUE is...
