The Macintosh Minus - pi-powered mini Mac Plus clone with 5" CRT display

It seems to just be the vertical deflection. Hopefully a new IC fixes it.

The Macintosh Minus - pi-powered mini Mac Plus clone with 5" CRT display

I fried the first TV's vertical deflector and I fried the Pi Zero W as well. Oh well, more reason to work on V2. I already found and got the component working, although the switch is built into the component port, so for now I just need to stick a plug in to stop the noise. Hopefully I can...

Really working out the details.... I realized the 1MB I have is totally a different fascia than the Mac Plus photos I referenced out of laziness on v1. I originally thought it would be cool to have the NFC reader inside the floppy slot so I can put a card in like a floppy, but they only old...

I understand what you mean, but we're fundamentally talking about a system from the mid 80's. None of them are as usable as a modern computing device. It's about the art/novelty more than anything.

They typically can do localized refresh now; so you start with a white background and can make text function like it does normally when typing. Video is really the only thing you can't make useable now. For what the Macintosh Plus was capable of; I think it could work. Refresh rate is still...

I might try to copy this digital concept that I saw a few years ago: Although that's begging for an e-ink display. Maybe I'll make an "80s" iPod though.

Yup! I wish I heard of it in time but they did a Raspberry Pi hat version on kickstarter once too.

Nebra/AnyBeam MEMS Laser Pico Projector. AnyBeam in some markets, like the US. Nebra elsewhere.

Mine is a TOSHO, some are SONY. The design appears to be SONY's. There was a larger 4 inch Watchman they sold and this is a derivative of that. This module was used specifically in "video doorbells" in the 90s (Analog Ring haha); and this particular unit is new old stock from Aliexpress...

It's an actual CRT. No way to really project the image anywhere with significant brightness.

Now what are we going to make with this 4 inch "flat" CRT?

Give me a few more minutes now that work is done and I'll screenshot the 3d models with dimensions. The missing thing in v1 was related to that! Yes, the flange is missing, but the actual design problem was forgetting to put a radius on the actual edges where the gap is. EDIT: @Trash80toG4 I...

Unfortunately, not color. Just bluish phosphor and poor color balance from my phone. I have two color 5 inch CRTs but they're both in disrepair unfortunately. Tube length from the bracket is approximately 160mm; and the center is roughly 5% off the "equator" of the bulb side. (That's a total...

Gotta fix the scaling, but I figured out MinivMac. Turns out what I was doing wrong was not having a desktop version of raspbian installed. It's literally just a matter of dragging and dropping files otherwise. And one executable mod command.

I just took a side by side screenshot of the new and old models and realized the first one has a significant design flaw. Can you spot it? First one on the right. I was thinking of testing molds with these. I'm a total novice at casting though; I have a habit of design additive only...

Happy Friday, tinkerers! Not a huge update, but I did remodel my CRT after a lot of trial and error. The final (I hope) test print is going now. I'm learning Volumetric CAD is a rough way to do this, but I can't use meshes or I lose the ability to design the rest of it in CAD.... I haven't...

The Macintosh Minus - pi-powered mini Mac Plus clone with 5" CRT display

Hey guys, here's an update on my progress I posted to youtube. I explain more in the youtube description, but I might leave this one here, use it to get the software working, and start on a V2 with better mounting, some useable ports, and other changes.

    SE/30 Chassis Painting

That looks awesome! I think black is the right choice unless you want to go full wild contrast. In that case; splatter paint or some tie-dye effect would be neat and IMO Macintosh appropriate.
