Max HD size on PowerBook 180 (100 series) ?

    My 180c and 170 both have 2GB images on them that boot just fine. 170 is a V2 and 180c is a F4Lite (v1-based).

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

The hinge fix parts show up on eBay from time to time. Most bigger cities will probably have a print shop you can use, places like PCBway do it too I believe. Epoxy does work but I’d recommend the hinge fix if possible, it should be stronger in theory.

    Help needed with Powerbook 100

I do believe that you should be able to retrobrite the PB100 plastics. They’re the only main plastics on a gray PowerBook to yellow too. The keyboard and some other small parts can yellow on later ones, but the main plastics only do on the 100.

My IIsi Power Supply is dying. Possible to fix?

I did take these three photos when I opened it earlier.

My IIsi Power Supply is dying. Possible to fix?

Thanks for the reply! I was unaware that schematics existed for this supply. That should be helpful, as long as I can get better at reading those. I’ve never been great at that. I was thinking that this problem was more load-dependent rather than heat-dependent. I figured that would explain...

My IIsi Power Supply is dying. Possible to fix?

I bought a IIsi recapped at the VCF Swap Meet back in June. It worked fine when I got it, but a while later while I was playing some Tetris on it, it shut off. Now, it will start if I unplug the hard drive (known good), but can't get itself started with it installed. It will start, chime, start...

    retro mac sighting

More likely that it was an original clear case prototype. I'm pretty sure it's a known thing that Apple still has one of those that they keep on display...somewhere?

    Replacement display screw caps?

I’d be a bit worried with those that there would be too much flexing there and that it could damage the new parts or worse, cause the bezel to stress crack. I just feel like there’s a reason the originals were rubber. How do they feel to you?

PB 1400 with very bad hinges

I *think* so. The 150’s is different too though, but you didn’t mention that one.

PB 1400 with very bad hinges

Shame indeed. Luckily the 100 series laptops don't usually stress crack on the display housing itself, only the mounts. Probably because they used thicker plastic.

PB 1400 with very bad hinges

Yes, here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4391026 Installing the BlueSCSI will cause the cage mounts to break for sure, some of them at least. They’re likely already broken though, they do so in their own. As long as some are still intact, you can leave it be. But you can also fix them, and...

PB 1400 with very bad hinges

The 170 needs the hinge mounts replaced for sure, they all do. That’s a proven fix though.

PB 1400 with very bad hinges

With 90s laptops, there isn't a brand out there who didn't build a bad hinge/hinge mounting design. TiBook in particular is because they just glued the hinge to the housing display-side. So yeah, that breaks! I think they also do snap in other places though too.

    Help needed with Powerbook 100

Can you post hi-res photos of your board? Sounds to me like you may indeed have something broken somewhere. Using a system with old caps installed (if any) can accelerate corrosion. It's certainly possible for an ultrasonic cleaner to break already weakened connections.

PB 1400 with very bad hinges

Congratulations: You officially win the award for the worst cracked 1400 display housing! That is truly remarkable. You have a few options here. The 1400's hinge failures are twofold: 1. As ClassicHasClass described, the hinge mounts can break. This sort of failure can and does happen to...
