    What's your oldest working battery?

Here’s an update to mine: 1. Oldest is still my 3400c batteries, although now I’ve got 5 of them! And yes, the 5th one still holds at least 2 hours. 2. My PowerBook G3 PDQ’s battery is still going strong too. 3. I’ve now got another Latitude CPi battery that works. That’s from 1998. 4. I do...

    Apple Extended Keyboard repair help

Good news! The problem resolved itself. Who’s to say why, good thing is it works now! I’ve gone ahead and also soldered up the bodge for the left option key, and I finished cleaning it up. All reassembled now and working great! All for just $5 and a bit of time, definitely worth it!

    Apple Extended Keyboard repair help

I just tested in circuit and the switch does appear to be stuck shorted. Good point though that it may be the PCB at fault as well, I’ll desolder the switch when I have time and then I’ll have a look if it’s really bad or if it’s the board. I hope it’s the switch.

    Apple Extended Keyboard repair help

I’ve got an original AEK with a bad left shift key. I took the assembly apart and noticed some corrosion in one area and I cleaned it up. Two traces are bad and I traced one of them back to said left shift key, great! The other leads to an option key. So I traced the trace all the way to a pin...

And also fun fact: The 170 is the best System 6 laptop Apple ever made - and one of the few able to run it, along with the Portable, 100, 140, and the 145!

Just soldered up and installed a V2 BlueSCSI into my PowerBook 170 - it’s had it hinge mounts replaced, RAM maxed to 8MB, and now this. Just need to replace its interconnect board to get internal sound working again and it’s finished.

Clamshell XGA Mod - Possible on 4MB VRAM models?

I’m all for this investigating! Love it. Your theory makes sense to me - there are a lot of unpopulated points on the clamshell logic board.

[High Score Challenge 03] Glypha: Vintage, Glypha III v1.0.1 and Tetris (Spectrum Holobytes)

Wish I'd been able to submit a higher score for Tetris and one for the other games, just unfortunately been very busy over the last month or so with all sorts of stuff. Doesn't help my 10,000 something highscore got erased. I still want to check out Glypha thanks to this though at some point and...

Calling all Duo owners! (Especially those with a 270c)

I'm working on getting cap reference values for various PowerBook Duo laptops for my website. The 270c is an 030 Duo so I assumed that it would have the same logic board as the 210/230/250 but I've seen conflicting info elsewhere, mainly, an older thread with some incomplete photos that shows...

    vision pro

I’m gonna copy paste my thoughts on this from a discussion thread on 68kMLA - Just had a look through the website - it all seems like cool technology. It does. But the gesture stuff worries me that it’s going to end up kind of gimicky… that stuff usually is. Another thing that jumped out at me...

iMac G3 2001 not recognising internal drive

These will go over 8GB easily, I've got 40 and 60GB drives in both my G3s. I'd check around the IDE area of the board for any fuses that could potentially be blown. I've actually had a very similar issue on two separate iBook Clamshell logic boards, both of which wouldn't spin up any hard drive...

[High Score Challenge 03] Glypha: Vintage, Glypha III v1.0.1 and Tetris (Spectrum Holobytes)

Oh that’s so strange… I just opened Tetris on my 3400c to take a picture of my second score submission of 10,000-something and it’s gone! Reset not blank for some reason but to the scores that were already there from whoever Sean is from whoever uploaded it to macintoshgarden… that is so weird...

[High Score Challenge 03] Glypha: Vintage, Glypha III v1.0.1 and Tetris (Spectrum Holobytes)

Yeah after that I don’t think I should even bother trying in glypha vintage… will get glypha 3 onto my PowerBooks later though. Haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Mac OS System Identifiers discussion thread

It should, yes. My 5300 will actually change to a 5300ce, it’s got the 117MHz logic board installed but my display cable broke so I had to fall back on a 5300c display.

Mac OS System Identifiers discussion thread

Continuing the discussion from the Q650 thread. So from what I know - System 7.5 killed off system identifiers in the about this Mac page. However, from my experience getting copies of the original customized OS back on a few of my PowerBooks, they stuck around a bit longer. At least up until...

Another software request: PowerBook 5300 Restore CD-ROM

Well the first download is just a set of floppy images of all the worldwide languages, not the actual CD installer, hmm. The second one definitely wouldn't give me the factory install with the original tour, etc.
