My 858D runs at 375, narrow nozzle. Has always worked well for me. I'm sure quality control on these units is... different so temperature readouts may differ from user to user.

I agree with Stephen, sounds like a grounding issue. Similar experiences can be replicated with something like the color classic when shielding isn't properly installed. Typically I've noticed the screeching coinciding with HDD activity over the speaker.
