    Spicy Pillows

I’m thinking if you had been using this as a streaming device, you probably have it connected to power constantly? This is a conversation I frequently have with customers at the shop…battery health degrades (with time and with use) to the point where it starts to become noticeable, and as a...

    Removing logo/emblem from Mac 512k.

I suppose if you wanted to avoid disassembly, you could very, very carefully use Super Glue to attach something to the damaged badge that might allow you to pull it out — in my experience, the adhesive was essentially double-sided tape, and I would expect it to give way. You might also use a...

    Removing logo/emblem from Mac 512k.

This won’t be a helpful response if the computer is assembled, I know — but I had good luck with running it under hot water to soften the adhesive, and pushing it out from the back with a small SIM card tool.

    Switchbot

When I did this, I built a 3D printed spring loaded button assembly that fit into the PDS port in the case — pressing that would move a 3D printed piece that presses the Power Button on the Mac mini. It should not have worked as well as it does.

Adventures in 3D Printing with Wood PLA

Happy to do so! There are two versions of this: Classic Mac V2 is the version I printed (seen below), with a void in the center, suitable for stuff. Classic Mac No Cutout is a solid model. I was able to dial in reasonably good settings for Hatchbox Wood PLA, and this printed mostly without...

Adventures in 3D Printing with Wood PLA

I manage a small Apple Authorized Service Provider, and as such, we have customers coming and going and signing pieces of paper. For some time, I've had it in mind to have something interesting and attractive to put pens in at the front counter -- I'd been thinking of the Classic Mac form, and...

Suggest a good "Beige" PLA for Classic Mac

I had the misfortune to discover that there is now also a slightly larger version of the Tiny Mac that I made not too long ago -- and of course, now I need to build another one. I'm hoping for recommendations for a good match for the Beige of the early Mac models. Everything I've seen is either...

    I Print Six Colors

Very pleased with how this turned out! It took some doing to find a reasonable match for the six colors — the yellow could be a bit more golden, the green a bit more saturated, the blue a bit lighter — but in context, I think the colors work well together. Yellow, green and blue aren’t colors...

Without a Floppy EMU, how to get files to my Macintosh 512K?

Whoa. I had no idea! I‘d probably read that HFS stands for “Hierarchical File System,” but I never understood the significance…

Without a Floppy EMU, how to get files to my Macintosh 512K?

I was ultimately able to read from and write to the (I think) 800K drive in my Mac SE — though I could only copy files, I could not copy (or even create) folders. That‘s not a distinction I came across while researching, and now I’m curious as to the technical reasons behind this. I expect it...

Without a Floppy EMU, how to get files to my Macintosh 512K?

I have somehow succeeded in installing a ROM-inator Resurrections Kit in the Macintosh 512K I've been working on. (Thanks, Kay Koba!) I'm far from confident in my soldering skills -- they are still very much a work-in-progress -- but JDW's video (thanks, JDW!) went a long way toward getting me...

iBook G3 is the teardown from Hell - stripped screw

For whatever it’s worth, I have found that using a rotary tool to carve a groove into the stuck screw, to allow the use of a flat head screwdriver, is usually a reliable method of getting the screw out. Of course, it requires a bit for the rotary tool that is just large enough to use without...

Mac SE Restoration Project -- advice wanted!

Yes, I suppose it makes sense to take one step at a time -- as was said, I was thinking one of the benefits of starting with a working Mac might be that if anything goes wrong, it kinda limits the scope of the likely failures. I'd been put off by the idea of working on the Analog Board and...

Mac SE Restoration Project -- advice wanted!

A functional Mac SE (FDHD) was passed along to me, and this has set me along the path of a restoration project that I’ve had in mind to try for some time. I’ve replaced a few faulty RAM modules to get it properly working again, and I’ve also disassembled and cleaned the Floppy Drive and...

    MacBook Air Mid-2013

Research suggested that this was an error message that was turning up on some supported Macs, as well, when macOS 12 has been installed.

    MacBook Air Mid-2013

Knowing full well what I could be getting into (and maintaining a backup and having most of my working files originate on Dropbox) I installed macOS 12 with OpenCore on my MacBook Air Mid-2013 (1.7 i7, 8GB RAM), which sees consistent daily use. The process was surprisingly easy, and I've had...

"Platinum" PLA for Macs and Apple ][s

For what it's worth, I was quite pleased with Makerbot Warm Grey (should it ever become available again) when I put together my Tiny Mac. (It seems more beige than gray as filament, though more gray than beige as an object.) On its' own, it seems a good match with the M0100 Mouse (refitted for...

    RASCSI Internal holder?

Would you mind providing a gentle nudge in the right direction for implementing this? My understanding is that the RaSCSI (mine is due to arrive this week!) uses the GPIO, and I haven't been able to find an explanation of how to implement this without connecting to a few of those pins. Thanks!
