Recreating the Mac's CUDA / EGRET microcontroller chips - can it be done?

He shared that he was using a 68hc705e1– an EPROM variant of the original IC. This link may be helpful: https://github.com/DosFox1/Raven-Programmer I believe he was working with @max1zzz to test the results. I pointed him toward this thread. Perhaps he will jump into the discussion.

343S0120 (0120) voltage monitor IC (LC, Color Classic, Classic II) replacement

Impressive work finding a suitable solution! I appreciate those that can take on this level of research and add creativity. Are you planning on posting the details on how to obtain the IC and PCB?

Poll - Extending the term length of the board

Staggered terms are critical if the board moves beyond one year (which I support). Perhaps there is a randomized way to assign staggered terms (i.e. drawing names out of a hat), to establish a sensible rotation. Relatedly, it’s quite common for officers to rotate in position up to the chair.

    Apple Keyboard M0116 Spacebar Spring

I’m cleaning a long-sought-after M0116 keyboard to pair with my Macintosh SE. While cleaning, I noticed a small spring loose along the bottom of the keyboard’s case. This seemed important, but I didn’t see an obvious place for it to go. As space bars can be surprisingly exotic, I focused my...

    LC II G1 & G2 BOMARC Error

While working on a troublesome LC II, I discovered the BOMARC schematics incorrectly depict the connections to the G1 and G2 oscillators. Based on my poking around, I believe they should be as follows: G1 - 25.175MHz Pin 1 - NC Pin 2 - Ground Pin 3 - UG5 (Pin 42) Pin 4 - 5v (c124) G2 -...

Recreation of RFI shields for compact Macs - 128K, 512K, Plus, SE and SE/30

I’m currently working on an LC II, and noticed the shield has tabs that contact pads or connectors on the bottom of the logic board.

    LCIII C22 polarity

I'll add my voice to those who had this problem with the TDK PSU and recapping C22 with a tantalum (I did not order the caps, but they look like Kemets). When following the silkscreen, I was getting -2.2V, but once I flipped C22 around (opposite of the silkscreen), I got a solid -5.1V. I...

So you wanna start an SE/30 Reloaded group buy...

What an amazing summary of something that has clearly taken a lot of your time. In my opinion, your final cost was reasonable given what is pre-populated on the board. I also appreciate you posting this here, where it can be found and helpful to others in the future. Videos are great for...

    You on Mastodon?

I ran a person instance of Mastodon for nearly a year, but I’m now at https://bitbang.social/@retroviator My schedule is pretty full, so I enjoy dipping in and seeing what people are up to through Mastodon. It helps me feel connected to others with the same goofy interests, and without the...

    Skipping AUTOEXEC.BAT

That would track. Each buffer takes 528 bytes of memory. The PC-DOS 2.1 manual states that, “if you use data-base applications, or run programs that perform a lot of random reads and writes of records… a value between 10 and 20 buffers will usually provide the best results.” But 20 was a problem...

    Skipping AUTOEXEC.BAT

I've been plugging away on my IBM 5160. It is configured with an XT-IDE and a Gotek, and aside from media upgrades, I would like to keep the experience as vintage as possible. I have other XT-class computers I can max out, and I have an IBM 5150 I'll leave completely stock, but I'm hoping to...

    Macintosh 30-Pin SIMM Information

SIMMs (single in-line memory modules) were an innovation created in 1982 to allow memory to be installed on a separate circuit board and connected to the main board through a dedicated pin connector. SIMMs (and the related SIPP modules) allowed larger quantities of DRAM to be installed without...

So, five Mac IIci walk into a shop...

I've had a long break from my Mac IIci because I acquired a horde of Commodore goodies. While I don't have as strong a personal nostalgia for Commodores, I couldn't pass up this collection. It has taken me quite a while to sort through it, clean things enough to not feel dirty handling them...

So, five Mac IIci walk into a shop...

I'm taking my time working on Alpha's board--learning as I go. I could talk myself into thinking the board would fire up as is, but I'm enjoying honing my repair process. It's funny how this hobby adds difficulty as you level up. It starts with SMD cap removal and replacement, then running...
