    Remove and socket SE/30 CPU?

Hakko recommends 3-4 as proper settings for a multi-layer board with power planes. I'm going to use the preheater and bring it to 100C before applying the FR-301. Belt + suspenders! Keeping my fingers crossed :)

    Remove and socket SE/30 CPU?

Thanks for the tip! Maybe it's just me, but I've found Phoenix Connectors a huge PITA to deal with. High shipping charges and very slow to get things out the door. I was able to find a couple of NOS sockets on eBay and hopefully they are as advertised.

    Remove and socket SE/30 CPU?

I had already thought about the pins, and definitely would not plug that chip into a socket afterwards. Here's a couple of photos of the Dove board:

    Remove and socket SE/30 CPU?

I have a hot air station (Global Specialties Blackjack) so I can certainly try that.

    BlueSCSI v2 - DaynaPORT WiFi!

I admit I never tried to install from those disks, but the title sure sounded promising.

    Remove and socket SE/30 CPU?

That's very good to hear! Do you recall the diameter of the nozzle you used? Heat setting? What concerns me the most is that sometimes you get a real stubborn pin that refuses to clear. With a chip or a socket I generally grab on with a pair of long nose pliers and wiggle the pin to break it...

    BlueSCSI v2 - DaynaPORT WiFi!

I found this in my archives. Please let us know if it works for you?

    Remove and socket SE/30 CPU?

I have acquired a Dove Marathon 030X/SE accelerator board. Apparently it's compatible with the SE/30, but expects to plug into the CPU socket. The SE/30 CPU is unfortunately soldered in place. What do folks think about my chances of removing the original CPU without damage to the board? I do...

4.5V Battery Replacement for Early Compact Macs?

That makes great sense for almost everything. But, the Mac 128, 512ke and Plus have a battery compartment on the back intended for a 4.5V battery that's long unobtanium. Stacking 3 LR50 cells gives you the right voltage and fits perfectly in the existing holder. But for anything with an...

4.5V Battery Replacement for Early Compact Macs?

The (expensive) Excell replacement batteries are actually (3) LR50 cells spot-welded in series. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet three individual LR50s with heat shrink around them will work just as well. The combination is a wee bit longer than the OEM battery so tension should hold...

    BlueSCSI v2 - DaynaPORT WiFi!

Turns out that the afpd daemon crashed on the server, so networking is restored. However, the alias approach continues to not work. Referencing the alias triggers a login dialog, but after entering credentials (which I should not have to do, since the share was checked as persistent in...

    BlueSCSI v2 - DaynaPORT WiFi!

I'm using OpenTransport, not MacTCP. The alias approach has been suggested by a number of folks across various fora, but it did not work. I just receive a complaint that the underlying volume is not available. Worse, something that I did in the course of troubleshooting has broken DaynaPORT...

MacTwister: a MacCon/Etherport/Shiva/Dayna Twisted Pair breakout board

Since the web site has disappeared I assume this project never came to fruition. A bit sad because I could use one.

    BlueSCSI v2 - DaynaPORT WiFi!

Quick question for folks running Mac OS 7.3.x Appletalk clients over the DaynaPORT SCSI link: Are you able to get remote volumes to remount automatically after restart? I have the appropriate boxes checked in the Chooser, but the volumes do not appear until I reconnect manually. Every time...

    SE-TOPPER (Now Available!)

Very cool. Joe mentions tentative support for SE/30 and that would be a big help to me at the moment.
