    MDD Power Supply Recap Success

These are the parts I used for the recap, bought from Digikey. The recap took me several hours. Someday I'll get myself a vacuum desoldering tool, would have made the job a lot easier, but I did this with a spring loaded solder sucker. Index DigiKey Part # Manufacturer Part Number...

Macintosh IIci video sync problems with modern LCDs

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 740B that is nice and crisp on my IIci and IIsi.

    Pi-hole and https proxy

Is anyone running pi-hole and/or an https proxy for making vintage browsing a little more usable? I haven't used pi-hole in quite a few years, but I'm thinking of picking up a device and giving it a try again. Maybe pfSense could do the proxy? I've never used pfSense, but I think it is powerful...

    Not only vintage Computers

Looks like some cool dudes here. I daily a 2017 Chevrolet Volt, but I'm about to burn a ton of gasoline doing Big Sky Race Week in my 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 with a turbocharged 351W. I had to swap the transmission this week. Better that it failed a week before the trip than 1000 miles into it. It...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

The second card I got had an ST chip, but it was also a 12V write chip so I was unable to flash it. Perhaps it is time to invest in some more tools. If I am removing the ROM anyway, is there any advantage to replacing it with a 512k and using the full un-reduced ROM?

    Classic Marathon on Steam

Marathon was a favorite for LAN parties in my youth. I've read the story, though I've never played single player all the way through. It's on my to-do list. Perhaps this winter.

    MDD Power Supply Recap Success

I bought Halo for Mac when it originally came out, but I've never had a Mac fast enough to play it properly. Best I had back in the day was an 800MHz Quicksilver which was on the bottom end of the system requirements for CPU, and I don't recall what I had for a graphics card but it probably...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

I've done lots of soldering over the years, but never with hot air. I wouldn't mind adding to my skillset. Come to think of it, I might have a programmer, but I don't know it's capabilities. It is part of a device to interface with GM OBD1 fuel injection systems. I used to burn chips to change...

    MDD Power Supply Recap Success

Just a quick success story. I picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD 1.25-DP to have as my multipurpose vintage machine. It is the fastest PPC machine I've ever had. But I was a poor student when G4s and G5s were current so they were well out of my price range back then. I kept an Apple laptop, but ended...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Thanks for the consolidated flashing guide. Unfortunately, my eBay card has an AMD AM28F010 ROM chip (12V write) and I was unable to flash it with the utilities (OS 9 or DOS). I don't have either an air soldering kit nor an EEPROM programmer, so I'm trying my luck buying another card on Amazon...

IDE/PATA to SATA for iMac G3 rev a

I have recently purchased two of the StarTech adapters (from Amazon) and they worked perfectly on an MDD 1.25-DP, a Sawtooth G4 and a B&W G3 (though the early ATA chipsets still limit drives to 128GB). I did attempt to use it for an optical drive on the B&W which did not work, but I don't know...
