Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Nice ! Yes, that's what I've found as well (with the community help) 3 screw versions are ALPS ones, 4 or 8 screws are NMB ones This matches the information on Deskthority here

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Usually LEDs (most, not all) do have a flat notch on them. It should match the notch on the PCB silkscreen My bad, you are right. It's 2mm spaced You are welcome ! I've never seen the 341-0875-A. Where did you find it ?

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Sure. For this project with this controller (341-0001) there is no difference. The controller is versatile and has everything built in (Pull-ups, current limiting resistors…) Using another controller however, pinout issues aside, would maybe need (at lease) a resistor network on the keyboard...

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Thats weird, maybe the LEDs are backwards ? This does look so good with the Kingston Trackball ! The PCB was designed to use an angled right 2.54mm header or a connector like this (see the silkscreen). I soldered the cables because I've got no patience. The internal connector is a good idea...

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Might be. The loop resistance of a membrane "switch" is about 100-200Ω and act as a current limiting resistor. When switching to standard switches, it goes down to 0Ω, so you have to be careful in some cases to not short the controller. The 341-0001 has 33kΩ internal pull-up resistors, so 33kΩ...

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Hello, Nice detective job ! I'm not 100% if Apple cables are all the same, but you got that right. The letters stand for : - G = ground (green) - V = VCC / +5V (red) - A = ADB bus (blue) - P = Power Trickle (white) - E = Earth / Shield (thick black) Also thanks for your build log, it will...

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Thanks to everyone photos who helped: ANSI version of the PCB ! It turns our the controller is dual mode, and will boot into ISO or ANSI mode when installed in the respective PCB. You can find the ANSI Gerbers files here

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Thanks @RetroTheory and @François I didn't know about the ALPS clone. About the NMB one, it looks like that's really a different controller. The KS88C0504 has internal pull-up controllers, while ion the NMB PCB, it's external. Also a few more things that aren't there on the ALPS version...

Design68: A 65% replacement keyboard using AppleDesign controllers

Was working on this since a few weeks. Since it works, I'm gonna post that here. One common issue I and a few other folks have is that while Apple Extended Keyboards are great (and still my favorite keyboard), they are kinda big for test benches or if your retro corner is small. That and we...

PowerMac 6500 PCI graphics card options? (Feeling overwhelmed)

My vote goes for the Radeon 7000. I will echo what @Stinkerton18 said. I have both (reduced ROM and full ROM). Reduced ROM works better in a New World Mac as primary/secondary card. You can also flash old Sun Radeon 7000s (SUN 375-3290-01) as they have a 128K ROM as well.

Modern PDS Riser Card for SE/30

Sorry but a 68030 in a FPGA ain't happening. The "best" open core is a 68020 (TG68K.C) and it has only a 16 bit wide which won't work in a SE/30. 68030 would require a MMU (68851 or compatible core), which doesn't exist. To my knowledge no open FPU implementation exists either. I also agree...

Video card memory limit on G5s under Linux

It's not limited to GPUs and VRAM. It's related to PCI/AGP Bus or IOMMU. Logic board limitation that macOS has workaround for. Can't remember the detail exactly. You will have stability issues with PCI Cards, Ethernet and so on with 2 GB+ of RAM as well, same thing with FreeBSD. I think Quads...

    Macintosh connector part numbers

Does cables have a place in this thread ? PCL-10120-1E from Advantech works as a floppy cable replacement. Available from Mouser, Farnell and a few others. Useful to avoid dodgy cables from eBay. Also work for Floppy Emu

    Macintosh connector part numbers

I just received them, but didn't use them for now. They look high quality, gold plated inside the pin sockets as well. They may be a little on the expensive side, but getting brand new manufactured 68030 sockets is kinda nice. Even if they are out of stock, Mouser will ask Aries to build them...

Nice, I've heard about this possibility but never managed to meet someone who did it. Good job ! Are you using an USB Blaster to program it ?

DuPAL - A dedicated toolset for reverse engineering PAL/HAL SPLD's

I build one of theses a while ago. It's not magical on complex PALs, like combinatorial ones with multiple feedbacks. But they do help. Registered ones are better reversed using the DuPAL_Peeper tool than brute forcing with the DuPAL_Analyzer Good stuff !

    'Weecee' custom Vortex86DX computer

Really nice project. I learned its existence from the LGR Video. Are Vortex modules interchangeables ? Could one build this nice thing with a faster SoM like a Vortex86DX2/3 for an early Win 2K/XP build ?
