    Best OS for Portable 5120?

Agreed - the difference between 6 and 7 on the Portable is noticeable, even if you have "enough" RAM.

NeXT Station Color Collection for sale

The early NeXT monitors included the connections for the keyboard (with attached mouse) and also provided the speaker, and connections for sound in/out. Later, as @Fizzbinn said, to allow for the use of more "generic" monitors, those connections were moved to the soundbox. Instead of one cable...

NeXT Station Color Collection for sale

That's a beautiful collection, especially with the color printer! Definitely in the four figures, but how high? That depends on how bad someone wants it. Location/shipping is almost as big a factor as price for stuff like this - finding the right person - locally - is going to be the trick. As...

Whats the most useful thing you've 3d printed?

A clip to replace the broken one for our window shades. It's not "quite right" but it works, and it's not visible with the shade attached, so, win!

Macintosh Portable: "pop" noise every 10s from Speaker & Headphones

Sorry for being so long - had to make the time to pull out the machine, charge up the battery, etc. I don't get the same sound that you do, neither over the headphone jack, nor from the speaker. I do still get a lot of static/interference on the headphone jack, but not the speaker. This is on...

@JDW - I will pull the machine out this week and check. Feel free to remind me if I'm tardy in replying.

Doing something silly, dangerous, and potentially useful with BlueSCSI

I can't find the exact quote, but something along the lines of "We do things by the book to avoid trying something stupid. The book, though, is a collection of stupid things that worked".

Terminal / Modem program for Mac OS 8

You could try to find Red Ryder/White Knight. Pretty sure that was a "for money" piece of software, but it was a pretty darn good terminal. Surprised ZTerm doesn't work. I suspect init conflicts or something similar...

Passed up these bargain projects at Free Geek Minnapolis this week.

That one has both machine and dock recapped, battery rebuilt etc. about as close to turnkey as you can get.

    M0001 power sweep/video board dead

Pina also did a book called "The Dead Mac Scrolls" which which is a sequel to the above moving into even later machines. You will generally find both together - get them both!

    Canon Object.station 41

Recently came into a longtime want - a Canon object.station 41, with the keyboard. The SCSI card and drives are in the machine, thought the SCSI cable is missing. On power-up, the caps/num/scroll lights flash briefly, and there is power to the disk drives, but there is no POST, no beeps, no...

Reason Lisa Mouse is So Expensive?

I was lucky and found mine 20+ years ago for $5 in a big bin of Mac mice at a used computer store. Lightning can strike, but it's getting harder and harder for these old machines. At that time, Mac serial mice and non-ADB keyboards were basically "junk" along with 128K/512K Macs.

    Franklin Ace 2200 Keyboard?

Free Geek Twin Cities recently got a donation of a Franklin Ace 2200, but unfortunately without they keyboard. I thought I would ask here in case anyone might have a spare or know of some other solutions to at least see what the functionality is of this guy. I see some older posts on VCF.org...

Help installing software in Lisa Office System 3

I know the process is you highlight the app and stationary on the install disk and make a "duplicate" from the menu, and then drag the copies to the hard drive. That's when the master floppy gets serialized to the specific Lisa. If you are just trying to drag the apps straight from the diskette...
