Agreed - the difference between 6 and 7 on the Portable is noticeable, even if you have "enough" RAM.

The early NeXT monitors included the connections for the keyboard (with attached mouse) and also provided the speaker, and connections for sound in/out. Later, as @Fizzbinn said, to allow for the use of more "generic" monitors, those connections were moved to the soundbox. Instead of one cable...

A clip to replace the broken one for our window shades. It's not "quite right" but it works, and it's not visible with the shade attached, so, win!

Sorry for being so long - had to make the time to pull out the machine, charge up the battery, etc. I don't get the same sound that you do, neither over the headphone jack, nor from the speaker. I do still get a lot of static/interference on the headphone jack, but not the speaker. This is on...

I can't find the exact quote, but something along the lines of "We do things by the book to avoid trying something stupid. The book, though, is a collection of stupid things that worked".

You could try to find Red Ryder/White Knight. Pretty sure that was a "for money" piece of software, but it was a pretty darn good terminal. Surprised ZTerm doesn't work. I suspect init conflicts or something similar...

That one has both machine and dock recapped, battery rebuilt etc. about as close to turnkey as you can get.

Pina also did a book called "The Dead Mac Scrolls" which which is a sequel to the above moving into even later machines. You will generally find both together - get them both!
