    68kmla MIA

Ha! I guess I'm the first! I agree that it's a good idea. It's practical and useful, which is not only fun, but it also allows for more opportunities to actually use our old Macs for somewhat modern things, which is increasingly hard to do because they're so thoroughly outmoded, especially...

    68kmla MIA

Agreed! The vintage Mac-accessible classic site is also a fun thing that has been talked about for YEARS, but never actually done. Until now! I wonder if TinkerDifferent could implement something similar? c

    68kmla MIA

It seems that there has been a genuine effort to make amends for the extended period of neglect these past several months. The CPU ranks have been reimplemented, and now there's a neat classic version for classic Macs! It's nice to see the site getting some much-needed care and attention for a...

    Mac OS for CHRP systems

Next you know, someone will manage to boot System 7 (and Mac OS 8/9) on a G5! c

CarbonLib on NewWorld Mac OS 7.6?

That's a good idea. Where can I find PEFViewer? Does it also work on the Mac OS ROM file? I'm trying to start another project that involves patching Mac OS ROM 3.7 and/or 3.9 (included with Mac Os 9.0.4 retail and Internal Edition, respectively) to fix an odd and little noticed bug that...

CarbonLib on NewWorld Mac OS 7.6?

Now that NewWorld System 7 is a thing, has anyone successfully made CarbonLib work on it? I copied it over from 9.2.2, and it doesn't seem to work, but perhaps an earlier version could. I believe the initial version ran on versions as low as 8.1, so My guess is that version would have the best...

    DVD Burning in OS 9

Yes, the feature is available in 9.1 and up. I don't know if it would work on 9.0.x, but I suppose it could if all the necessary bits were transplanted over, since 9.0.x and 9.1 aren't terribly different. c

    Desktop G3 Zip/Jaz bezel

And here was the only other Jaz bezel I found on that page: c EDIT: @blturner beat me by mere seconds and posted what appears to be the exact same thing!

    Mac OS for CHRP systems

Well, this is old hat now, given the CHRP enablers have been out for at least a week, but I managed nevertheless to get it booted on a Firewire PowerBook G3 (AKA Pismo). It's kind of weird, but the core OS seems to work stably enough (7.6's version of Open Transport seems to be broken, though...

    Brittle Plastic Writeup

Not to mention the fact that it's not so great for the environment.... I wonder how modern plastics will fare 25-30 years from now? Something I find interesting is that plastics from 50-80 years ago (vinyl records, for example), are about as flexible and solid as the day they were pressed...

I came back here to say that Cory5412 actually still exists! He's made his first post in almost a year, and explained that it was due to life things beyond his control, basically (If interested, his post has all the details*). So, is this a turning point, where we'll see the site pulled back...

@mac27 We were recently discussing the software packets for Rev. A-D iMacs, weren't we? Alas, you're probably right, and I second your encouragement. Anyone who's a member there and has been relatively active (especially since the Crash of Summer '21) should save, at the least, their own...

Shoot. Has anyone managed to back up anything from there since the last outage? It looks like it might be getting dangerously close to disappearing permanently, despite what things to the contrary the admins say. c

Upgrading Powerbook 190 to 68040 with FPU?

@jmacz Nice to see you over here! I'm expanding my territory a bit, as you can see. After the last outage interrupted an important conversation, I decided it might be a good idea to diversify. So you'll start seeing more of me here hopefully :) c EDIT: Hey! I can do this here!! Come back...

Upgrading Powerbook 190 to 68040 with FPU?

They're OK if you accept them for what they are, but they cannot compete with modern trackpads. Beware fakes! They're everywhere! Finding a genuine 68040 is quite difficult, from what I've read, and many so-called 66/33 '040s with FPUs are actually fraudulently remarked 25/50 68LC040s. Many...

    PowerBook 500 series PPC upgrades

How timely! This thread is a few weeks old, but it just happens that I finally got my NuPower 167 back from Europe this past weekend, after 6 long years! If there's any information from it that might be useful to document (which can't be found in those photos), please let me know. c

    Calling Daniël from The Netherlands!

Well, the other forum is back online, so I was able to get in touch with him. I don't know how much longer it will exist at this rate. The problems caused by neglect are beginning to show more overtly. c

Yeah, it's back. But for how long I can't say. With that in mind, it's probably about time I start moving some of my activity over here. I'm feeling less inclined to contribute anything if it's going to get lost or become inaccessible due to bit rot caused by the admins' negligence. c
