    IIgs Expansion Card Recommendations

I like it. I do have my RGB monitor, but it’s nice not having to put more hours of use on it. It always starts up in the GUI mode a bit off but hitting a button fixes that up.

    Stealth IIGS Problem

Did the keyboard work correctly with the //e board? Maybe swap the board back into the old case and check it again?

    IIgs Expansion Card Recommendations

I like it. It works well enough to make the IIgs achieve its proper 14 MHz glory. The "OG" model is what @niek made before one of the components were no longer in stock. He's redesigned the board to not rely on that component and that is what will be available going forward. The new ones will...

    IIgs Expansion Card Recommendations

My IIgs currently has: * Applesqueezer GS (the OG model) * Uthernet 2 I use Marinetti for getting online. * Byteboosters Darksound (for stereo sound output) * Booti USB hard drive emulator (sadly no longer available) * Soldered connections for an RGBtoHDMI I also have a FloppyEmu, which is my...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Update: I used the Pay to Win tactic and got a working SE FDHD board off of eBay. What a working board confirmed for me that was that my Reloaded board mostly works, except for the ROMs. At this point, I have a number of PLCC EPROMs and SE ROM boards, so it's another weekend of soldering to...

    Apple IIgs RGBtoHDMI Soldering Diagram

These are screenshots from Mr Lurch's Things video on hooking up an RGBtoHDMI to an Apple IIgs, where he clearly shows and labels what pins from the RGBtoHDMI will need to be soldered to on the IIgs motherboard. While this is documented on the RGBtoHDMI Github wiki, these screenshots provide a...

    New Applesqueezer

@niek , creator of the Applesqueezer Apple IIgs accelerator has blogged that he has done a redesign of the hardware that will be coming out soon. One of the interesting updates in the hardware design is an SD slot that would supports saving and loading a RAM disk. Also: The latest v7 core...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

I finally got time to double check this on the board, and sadly (well, from a troubleshooting POV), the chips in question are in the correct orientation on the board. Note that the checkerboard is progress, in at least it's a different state of dead from before. The change, as noted above, was...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Ok, another update. I got some new (to me) SIMMs off of eBay and they arrived this past week, and installing the sticks did change the behavior. Based on this thread over at 68kmla, it looks like the analog board needs another look. I had recapped it, but there might be more to inspect.

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Just tried wiggling the harness between the 2 boards and the pattern doesn't change at all. I did reflow the usual suspect on the analog board where the cable to the logic board connects to. I'll try messing with the RAM sticks I have, but the contacts on them seem a bit worn. Thanks for the help!

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Following the advice of the folks on the discord, I've remade the ROMs, but I'm still pretty much where I was as of the last update: If anyone has any pointers, I'd really appreciate what to look at next.

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Another update: I remade the Low ROM and tried it out, but no dice No chime at all, as well. I'm hoping this is a pretty easy thing to diagnose.

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

I was curious about the revision history and Wikipedia has a decent summary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_IIGS#Revision_history This made me laugh, though: Another thing about the //e upgrade kit (granted the whole section is flagged as "original research":

    AppleSqueezer GS and ROM0 boards

@niek has written up how he was able to fix the issue thanks to a great benefactor who sent over 2 ROM0 boards to him to analyze: https://www.applesqueezer.com/post/rare-sound-issue-for-early-boards-fixed

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

I think the bodge wires are the most visible proof you have a ROM0 board. The board revision number is under the CPU if you really want to make sure. Again, relying on my 30+ year memory, I feel like the ROM01 upgrade was something we were notified about and we brought our IIgs in to the Apple...

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

I think the //e upgrade boards would have both the keyboard connector and the //e PSU connector (as @KennyPowers link shows above). My IIgs also doesn't have the //e keyboard connector installed (just the pads). I wonder if they shipped out a number of IIgs machines that used "leftover" //e...

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

My hunch is that the ROM0 to ROM1 upgrade was simply swapping out the ROM chip, and that the bodges were done at the factory for the ROM0 boards. I say this, since my recollection of the ROM upgrade was that it was quickly handled by the Apple authorized retailer at the time, when I took my IIgs...
