As most of us know the worlds supply of DB19's has sadly dwindled. This leaves many of us in the community in a tight spot when it comes to developing new creations and devices for our beloved machines. While there are DB19's out there they are limited and expensive, and that's not the sellers fault. It is simply the cost to make them. Thankfully @Willj , me (@jajan547), and @Jockelill have come up with the idea of 3D printing and making these adapters. Thanks to @Jockelill he's made some prototypes which work well.
So we have a model and it works great, but how does it print? Well to be honest pretty good I have a MakerBot Replicator+ and using PLA I was able to make pretty precise prints with some moderate cleaning (My results below). Yes they aren't perfect but you know what? They work.
@Willj has a Resin 3D printer and he was able to make clear prints, much clearer than mine but the issue is you have to fine tune the rigidity of the resin as it can shift and alter fitment. His results below:
While @Jockelill has both he opted to print these using JLCPCB's print service but in Nylon as it resists high heat. The results were amazing and absolutely perfect. He used these pins (linked and picture is below) but he also bought some on Mouser which are photographed below. What you can see it a fully 3D printed and self made DB19 for $3.00 cost assembled. This is absolutely amazing! You will notice some of our connectors pictured have holes missing this is for a secret project us three are still working on. As for the actual development of these we want to get these perfect before sharing the fun .stl's. This is because we want to be able to test and successfully make DB19 male, female, and shrouded cable style connectors. I've included below a video and images of @Jockelill 's turn out.
Everything tested okay and we got continuity on all pins. @Jockelill did have to drill a bit for the pins to be perfect he used the drill bits below. But as you can see a 3D printed self made DB19 ending a worldwide problem and saving loads of money.
We hope to provide you with some updated files and hope that this helps out the retro community!
