Hello everyone,

Someone in my area is selling an LC630, but it has been modded with a 580 Logic board. There's also a Color Classic for sale, and I was thinking of picking it up as well.

I've read that the 575 board fits in the CC for the Mystic (I have one), but the 580 Logic Board is a different shape or size and the CC chassis requires surgery for it to fit,

I also have a few 6320 boards that I could "upgrade" the 630 with, but wanted to see about the implications of the 580/6320 boards in the CC. (requiring the Takky mods)

I have a second 575 logic board, but I think the 68040 might be bad on it. Is it possible to swap the 68040 from the 580 to the 575 board?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

The LC 580/630 and onwards have deeper logic boards than the 520/550/575/CC, so you would indeed need to embark on major modifications to get one to fit. Having done a Takky mod 25 years ago, I can tell you that it's rather fiddly and time-consuming. The 580/630 didn't perform any better than the 575, so I'd suggest you focus on getting your 575 board working -- the CPU on the 580/630 is socketed so you can swap it over if necessary.
