Boot LC475 without battery?

Should I be able to boot an LC475 with no CMOS battery installed in the system? I've just acquired one that refuses to start without a battery and do not believe that's the expected behavior. If I'm correct in that assumption, any idea where to start troubleshooting?

(Apologies - I had erroneously posted this in the wrong topic)

The LC475 is one of those models that will not output video without a PRAM battery installed. I believe it is possible to "jump start" one by flicking the power switch on and off and back on again rapidly but I have never tried it.

I suggest getting something like a MacBatt or MeowTOAST to use a CR2032 battery instead of the 1/2AA.
