File Sharing through BlueSCSI

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this as it involves a Power Mac 6500, an LC475, an SE/30 and BlueSCSI, so if there's a better spot for my question, please move it there and let me know.

I have three Macs on my local wired/wireless network. Both the LC475 and the PM6500 have ethernet cards and are wired to my local network (192.168.1.XXX) through ethernet. My SE/30 is connected to my local network via WiFi through a BlueSCSI v2 with the Pico W. All three Macs can access the internet without any issues.

I've enabled File Sharing on all of them and the 475 and 6500 'see' each other when AppleShare is selected in the Chooser. The 475 and 6500 can log into each other and share files. But the SE/30 does not see any file servers under AppleShare in the Chooser. Also, the 475 and 6500 can't 'see' the SE/30 as a file server. All Macs are using Open Transport, with the LC475 and SE/30 running OS 7.5.3 version 2 and the 6500 is running OS 9.1.

I've laid the ground work to point where I think the source of the issue is. On the 475 and 6500 in the TCP/IP control panel, their connections are called 'Ethernet' and in the SE/30 in the TCP/IP control panel, it lists its connection as 'Alternate Ethernet'. I believe when setting up the WiFi connection for the SE/30 through the BlueSCSI, the DaynaPort driver set up an alternate network connection to access the internet without accessing the local wired network as a security measure?

I would like to exchange files between all three Macs so what do I do to reconnect the SE/30 back to the 'Ethernet' network so the SE/30 can share files and still access the internet over WiFi?

Thank you for your time and patience,
Gerry

'Ethernet' vs. 'Alternate Ethernet' is not your problem here, the name is different just because the Ethernet driver is different. You mention on all 3 machines you are using Open Transport and that "TCP/IP" control panel is set to 'Ethernet' for the Power Mac 6500, an LC475 and 'Alternate Ethernet' for the SE/30. Is it the same for the "AppleTalk" control panel on all 3 machines?

Assuming it is the next thing I would suspect is your WiFi router. It is much more common than not that they do not bridge the AppleTalk protocol traffic between their WiFi and Ethernet interfaces (as they absolutely do for TCP/IP). Apple's long discontinued AirPort basestation products support this but not sure if any modern/3rd party ones can do this.

Yes it's the same in the AppleTalk control panels as well. the 6500 and the 475 both show 'Ethernet' in AppleTalk and the SE/30 shows 'Alternate Ethernet.' My wiFi router is owned by Spectrum and I have limited access to it's configuration GUI. I can call their tech support about this but I'm not sure they will know what I'm talking about or if they will care. I can replace the Modem/Router devices with my own but that's going to be hundreds of dollars with no certainty that this will fix it. Also, the SE/30 and LC475 don't even show up on the list of devices on my local network according to Spectrum's router, though the 6500 does.

Is there a way to configure the DaynaPort driver to connect to the 'Ethernet'' stream instead of using the 'Alternate Ethernet'? There is another solution. I'm using the SE/30 PDS slot for the Booster 2.0 accelerator. I do own an AsanteTalk (2 actually) to convert the SE/30 printer 422 port to ethernet and feed my switch that way. It defeats my BlueSCSI WiFi solution but if it gets all the local Macs talking on the same page. I suppose I could also use my Asante SCSI to Ethernet adapter. Same issue but a different solution. I saw it recently so it's around here somewhere.

I would still like to find a WiFi solution if possible. If there are any other ways to resolve this issue, then please let me know.

If I have to go the 422 serial route, what kind of cable do I need? Straight through or crossover? Should I use the printer or modem ports? I know those last two questions are related.

Thank you fizzbinn for your time, sharing your knowledge and patience,
Gerry
